I have a s13, and I would like to see how involved a cut-back would be on it. Similar to what team orange does to their team silvias. Its hard to find many pics, much less information on this. If anyone has any information or comments they would be awsome.

Thanks

I don't think it would be that hard necessarily. Just alot of custom fabrication. If I had a welder and plasma cutter and a shittier fastback I would want to try it.

you basically need some gasoline and a match.
Open your hatch, fill it up with gasoline
throw a match inside..

it would be equivalent I think...

its not hard, the only involved part is rolling the edges to meet your stock body lines just measure, cut(dont forget a hole for your rear window), weld it in then bolt in the bottom(bolts are to prevent any chance of weight shift resulting in noise or cracked welds) throw in some spray in bedliner if u want. i know of a guy who did this back in tx it took him a weekend with the sheetmetal shop cooperating

*edt:forgot to mention he blanked out the rear 1/4 windows w/sheetmetal as well gave it a nice flow

i gave up on it after i found that 3/4 of the floor was rusted out, and i was getting feb up finnishing the rhd swap, fixing the floor and finnishing the "el-silvino" as my freinds dubbed it

10-19-2005, 02:08 PM
Robbie go with a design taken from off-road trucks in which the cage goes thru the rear panel into the interior. Outback make sure it braces to the shock towers. Pretty much its easier to design the cage before you weld it in. The simple part is getting sheet metal (prolly 1/4" thick as the rear piece to enclose the driver compartment). Use a hole saw to create holes in the sheet metal to run the cage tubing thru. Measure 5 times before you weld. Voila. BTW get some of that rhino liner to use in the now proposed flat bed.

240SeXy!
10-19-2005, 02:38 PM
Ya haha that would be funny, sponcered by Rhino Liner! ya i was planning on something like that, would be pretty sweet, or maybe just the carpet like trucks with toulle covers, it might be eaiser, lighter and cheaper i donno :hsdance: ..

240SeXy!
10-19-2005, 02:58 PM
Heres a random drawing I did in a minute at work,

The back should be a sheet with like a U cut into it after the cage is finished, With the struts exposed the cage will connect to them and also make a X in the back to reniforce along with a box in the lower end of the back.

here, :P :rawk: 1 minute...

Stop posting so much, take it easy. If you are really going to follow through with it, go look up the dynamics of it or copy down what you see in the pictures (I'm sure you have plenty), and transfer that to real life. Its not that complicated...

Holy crap, do you realize how thick that is? (well, the obvious answer is 1/4" :p) Typical sheet metal used on cars is around 20GA, which is 0.0320" thick.

Thanks for the compliments...... it really is not that hard if you are familiar with sheetmetal cutting tools and welding, and most of all......planning ahead. The window is actually out of my brother's Mazda B2200 mini-truck (note the Suicidedoors.com "Drop and Destroy" sticker)........he replaced this one with a solid glass. The lower portion of the back seat is retained, and to tell you the truth, it's not that bad to ride back there. I cut the hatch-hinge ledge off but kept that "duckbill" sorta lip and ran a line from that edge to the crease in the floor where the "bed" drops to go under the rear seat. I originally made a cardboard mockup of the rear firewall, then copied it onto a sheat of 20ga (I think) tin. The sides near the b-pillar were over-cut. I then made the panels to cover the b-pillars and trimmed the back edges to butt up to the firewall. The excess of the firewall was then trimmed to meet the new b-pillars and the seam was tacked into place. From there I started working rearward, boxing stuff in. The very rear panel will rivet in so I can access the taillights. I kinda got lazy after getting the cab wall in and still need to finish the thing, but if anyone wants closeups or anything, I could probably do that. Something else I did that I thought was cool is shaving the SOHC valve cover :) I like it.

a power back window would be sick on the cut 240sx. has anyone every contemplated this and can you just rip it off a tundra or something?

weld up the lines on the side of the hatch! thats looking pretty good though. If I did it I'd have a removeable rear wall for summer for sure. we are talking about doing it to my friends car but till we get more equipment its just that, talk... if I didn't have more work than I can handle I'd buy a junked fastback and do it myself.

Ya, I'd weld them, but I need a better hatch lip to start with anyways. This car has had something like 4 different wings on it.....:( There's a ton of bondo and who-knows-what on there. It's just tacked in because it looked rediculous w/ nothing there. -Late-

no way shawn? the previous owner must have done that. cause when i was puylling em off I noticed one was different on the rear and it was the exaughst side that appeared to have less mass on it. so I figured it was cut out cuz the exaughst was riding rather close to it. so that might be the exaughst side bro. cuz that smaller side bolts up perfect to the rear god now I feel like shit damnit. I dont have fronts either =( when I bought the car it only had 2 on the rear. fuck il get a hold of the guy who last owned it to see if I can get you the other set. im so sorry man I had no idea I thought one was supposed to be different cuz of the exaughst

C.R. Laurence used to make a power roll-down rear window for trucks, including mini-trucks. However, they were discontinued about 15 years ago.... I used to have one in my '84 Toyota Xtra Cab, but sold the whole truck a while back.

Maybe you could find one online somewhere?

i too am in the works of a sil-camino as you guys call it...i had a question though...the hatch gets cut but if you look where the body should be flat for a pick-up looking sqaure edged bed like in the pic of the brown one, the body is rounded and has contours that i cant figure how to work with...an idea i thought of for the rear window is to cut the back wall with window out of a truck. lol...then cut it till it fits...thanks guys

quite a few have asked me what the thing weighs. I had not weighed it until yesterday. It weighed out at a *rough* (+/- 10lbs.) 2500. Not sure out distribution, yet. I will get it on a set of scales soon. Here's a pic of the insidde of the "cab", lol, for those that have wanted to see the interior. Oh, ya, some [email protected]#hole thought he'd be smart and try to break in......hence the sheetmetal panel in the slider.

Oh.....curious what *normal* fastbacks weigh.....full interior, etc. Has anyone actually weighed theirs that would care to chime in? Thanks, guys. _Late_
