should i put these tires on my car??

right now i have p215/60r16's on my car i can get free used
p225's in same size would it be ok to put these on? i figure 10 mm isn't gonna make much of a difference...so is this a bad idea?<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>?

10mm isn't THAT big a deal, but it's nice to have the extra traction; generally moving to larger (wider) tires is seen as a performance mod, unless they're some shit rubber. What's stopping you!?!? If I had free 205s to replace my 195s I'd jump on 'em straight away! Heck if I could squeeze 215s onto my 6.5 (or 6"?) stock steel wheels, I'd do it!

Otherwise, you could just switch the rears to 225 and keep 215s up front.

BTW isn't the &nbsp;215/60 R16 a little big? as in, doesn't the huge sidewall look kinda funny? I think the "proper" 225 size should be 225/50/ 16, or at least 225/55 16... but 225/60? Just sounds kind of like a big sidewall.

if you have the oem 16x6.5 wheels i would recommend against it. a 225 section width should be complimented with a 50 aspect ratio. and 225 is too big to put on 6.5 wide wheels. how do i know? i did it. yes it will go on the wheel, and no it will not be damaged, but handling will not be optimal. i only had 225's on a 6.5 for a while because i knew i was going to get 7.5 wide wheels eventually. and even then, 8 inch would be better with 225's.

If your wheels are 7 inches or wider, I would get 225/50/16.

If they are smaller than 7, i wouldnt get a wider tire.

I am running 225/50/16 Toyo Proxies FZ4 all around and they are fine on my 7" rims. They fit the rim nicely unlike my friend with the same tires squeezed onto a 6.5" rim there is a hella lot of sidewall sticking over the lip.

Quick tire lesson in case you don't know how to read a tire

195/60HR15 87H -- stock size for an s13

195 - width measured in mm
60 - Height as a percentage of width
60% X 195mm = 117mm sidewall
H - speed rating
R - radial tire
15 - rim size
87 - weight rating
H - speed rating

according to my calculations (unless your stock tire size is different than mine, ie s14) the proper upgrade sizes would be as follows

205/55r15
215/55r15
225/50r15

205/50r16
215/50r16 (this is slightly tall)
215/45r16 (slightly short tire)
225/45r16
