i have witnessed polyurethane bumpers get runover or fly off at freeway speeds and still be in useable shape. I am doing some reasearch because i want to buy the Gfour aero kit from GPsports, but im curious as to how much abuse a 3.5 layer gel coated FRP bumper can take? my other option is to get a polyurethane aero , but personally I would rather spend the cash and get the Gfour because I love the look and nobody replicates it. so i was just wondering for you people with original, good quality aero that uses FRP, what are your opinions, any stories about how easy or how hard it was for the bumper to break?

they are pretty strong.. but no matter what its still fiberglas... it will break if you smak it on shit...
but on freeway the bumpers do hold shape.. and u can smack it a little before it starts to crack too much

unless the pre drilled holes dont line up then you gotta do it all over again :duh:
I have the real G4 aero on mine and it fits well and has stood up so far, no cracks, but I am careful when I drive (rarely)
The G4 aero is replicated by version select like the 180sx and S13 silvia. I am not sure of the S14 models, and the S15 front bumper hasn't been replicated yet (thank god). VS is a good way to save 50% but then don't try to pass off your Version select V1 as GP sports G4 that would be poserish (right Josh, wink, wink :D )

even oem aero urethane will get trashed and can break if abused bad enough i.e crushed on highway, hit wall, etc.
stuff like FRP and PFRP just give you added flex in case you give love taps or get it squashed under your car, etc. but if you run it over, i still think its safe to say that you're not using that without the help of some adhesives.
regular FG is like a tortilla chip, one hit and you're deep in guacamole
i think if you daily drive your car or drift it, you should buy aero with the mentality that it will break tomorrow, if that makes any sense. i personally see aero as being a temporary exterior mod. if you aint cool with losing the aero both mentally and financially, you gotta either find cheaper aero or get some OE aero and then u can scrape and squash all day long.

if ur all scared about it crackin from scraping cause ur car is so low or what ever.... just rivet an tin skid plate... that would save it for sure....

While regular FRP is rather strong, it will never be as resistant to breaking as Urethane. Depending on how badly the bumper was damaged, regular FRP is repairable.
There is another alternative to Urethane, which we call PFRP.

As you can see, this material is very bendable and durable like Urethane. It is not quite as resistant to breakage as Urethane, but it is definitely harder to break than regular FRP. Another benefit to this material is that it is even lighter than regular FRP, and is generally easier to repair than regular FRP.

thanks fo rur posts guys. I guess i shouldnt have to worry much except for maybe the occasional scrape. when i track the car i plan on running beat up stock bumpers so i wont cry when it hits a cone or worse. and just put the Gfour bumpers back on when i get home. Yeah i read about PFRP, but i really love the design of Gfour and they only hav FRP ...
thanks for ur helpfulness guys
bobbyboy. VS doesnt copy G4...the VS IV aero is similar but clearly different , imo. are you talking about a different kit?
