i didn't know exactly what to search because im new to 240's so my question is:
i have a 91 240 hatch w/ the dohc KA, now i also have a 90 coupe 240 sohc 5sp. i have all the parts to swap to a manual, but my question is, will the trans matte up? also, what should i do about the ecu? does it have extra wires for the auto trans that i should eliminate, or is it sort of plug and play? any help is appreciated. im comming from the Toyota MR2 world, so im a little clueless. im in the middle of building and swapping a 3sgte into my n/a MR2, so obviously the works are a little different.
thanks,
Ian

i keep hearing the sohc trannies will bolt on but then they don't, bellhousing's are different, i think you could swap them? well whatever not sure, but if i were you i'd just leave the auto ecu, read/check the faq on the manual swap from drift freaq, i did a manual swap and i'm not even running a lower harness/tranny sensors, just the speed sensor, car runs fine, just lazy to hook up the reverse switch/lights sinc ei i ono waht wires to splice/plug cause i'm lazy and i'm lazy to hook up the manual lower harness, not getting a check engine or anything so i'm cool

^^ You're Crazy. SOHC and DOHC trannies are the exact SAME. They match up PERFECT.
You'll need:
5speed tranny
Drive shaft
clutch cylinder
hard line
clutch pedal and brake pedal
clutch and those other gizmos
Time, and brute strength

hey, i didn't know exactly what to search for, so i figured i'd ask for help. thanks for yelling and parading around that im a newbie to this. i know i am. thanks for answering the question btw, i do appreciate that. im use to a forum that flaming, cursing and other imature stuff isn't allowed whatsoever, so the mature thing to do is just offer a little help. thanks.

uh... how was that yelling? Did i mention newbie? Jumping to conclusions...
I stated what you needed to know, that SOHC and DOHC trannies mate up PERFECTLY. I emphasis with capital letters, so if the ENTIRE sentence was caps, you'd know that'd be a sureshot flaming-hot yelling.
There's a difference in "YOU'RE A FUCKING NOOb!!" and EMPHASIS with caps.

No, not should work, it DOES work. Don't confuse the thread with assumptions. It works, end of story. It's posts like yours that future kids who try to search come back and whine about because they're getting different answers.

if you cannot get the tranny to the motor whether it be SOHC or DOHC, you arent trying hard enough or you messed up somewhere. Maybe when installing clutch or flywheel. So redo it again because it should fit, NO PROBLEM.
