Im going to need to do an Oil change real soon on the KA a friend of mine switched to synthetic blend and he says it really gives the engine good lubrication. Ahh I have no Idea what thickness Im going to need to get for my engine so maybe a little bit of help yeah?? And another thing regaurding the spark plugs what brand and type of plug will give a slight difference in power??? and how much do you think I will need to gap the plugs???
Thanks :ughug:

i am lazy, I just go grap the NGKs off Autozone/Pepbosy/etc. they come in pre-gapped.
syn blend is good... don't use full syn unless you want to add oil every 3 or 4 days (I noticed a pretty bad leak after switching). Now I use dino oil with higher weight to seal things up (hopefully).

thickness... 5w-30 or 10w-30 is fine
i would use dino oil as well. synth on these old seals = leaks. some people have luck with it, some don't. i didn't. lol.

Are there any Denso Iridium plugs that you guys have tried on you're 240's??? I hear those are really durable and they produce a lot of spark.

NGK 1 step colder. that's the factory spec.
spark plugs last for a while anyway.

Technicalllllyyyy copper plugs will provide the most spark since it is more conductive than iridium. Iridium will just last twice as long

^^^ Which is a fact that I more than enjoy, since they also cost about 1/2 to 1/3 as much.

you can also monitor the performance of the engine by checking/replacing the dirt cheap NGK plugs. yay!

i dont understand why ppl use synthetic motor oil, eh just get what ever is on sale... prefer valvoline... but what ever works for ur pocket... sparkplugs ngk or champion...

I noticed a slight performance improvement when I switched to syn, supposedly provides lower internal friction than dino.

Synthetic oil is the best you can get period. But it should be used in an engine from day one after break in. Switching causes some problems for the most part due to engine condition at the time.

Ricks15, all our engines are aging-- the best we can hope for is that it will continue to wear well. how often do you need to top off your oil? if your engine is consuming oil, then switching to synthetic is only going to make it worse. synthetic oils contain cleaning agents that may clean away buildup your worn engine needs to fill-in/cover cracks and leaks. I use 10w40 all year because it's relatively warm all year in this area. the thicker grade also slows consumption. as for plugs, you won't notice a difference by using anything better than copper or platinum. beyond routine maintanence, the only thing that'll make your engine run better is a rebuild
