Hello, I'm going to be picking up a 240 coupe pretty soon(within a month) and was wondering what year would be best to get? between the 89-93. Like the differences if any, engine type, problems, etc etc. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

91-94 are preferable over the 89-90 even if you do plan on doing a swap. Just less to do. Also they have 140hp stock in that way which you should probably keep it since you are from California. I'm being nice right now, everyone is going to be mean to you soon. Some of this is stuff you should just google about to find information on any car you plan on buying. But the 89-90 were sohc with a bumper called the "pignose" and the 91-94 had a dohc and a smoother bumper

Yeah, I figured people would start being mean to me but as long as someone gives me some info, it'll be worth it. The pignose would be the bumper with the two sort of rectangle holes in it right? in between the headlights i think? I heard that on some there was a head gasket problem or something on like the '90s. thats mostly what i wanted to know, like the little problems and stuff. Thanks for your help.

Just pick up the cheapest one you can find. There isn't a mega-vast difference in all the different varieties of S13s, just test drive a couple, find the one you like and BAM!

I've only driven one before, a white automatic. Been wanting one since then. I plan on going down to the bay area and checking a few out.

Listen for timing chain problems, also the shocks are going to be blown *most likely* Check for rust also.
Autos are boring, find a 5-speed and have some fun : )

my best suggestion is not to get one...honestly if you have to ask these questions then you arent ready for buying this car...do some more research then ask more difficult questions...most importantly SEARCH BEFORE YOU POST...it will save you all kinds of flaming and wont make you look like a stupid noobie bandwagon jumper...just my .02

the 240 is overrated. Unless you are ready to deal with the infinite problems that the 240 has, ditch your dream of getting one. If you know what you are getting into, just get hte cheapest one u can find.

get a honda, more reliable and better on gas.....besides, it can fit people in the back seat who aren't midgets with no legs. and the exhaust won't fry your shoes, legs, and ass, not to mention the temperamental idle and suspension clunking.....

Get one that wasnt owned by some teenage drifter wanna be. Old ladys love 240s you can find lots of pristine well kept 240s if you look.

I seriously cant understand why this would be a bad near first car. Its relatively low powered, low maintainence, and easy to work on. I would personally recommend a s14 though since the newer you can get the better basically

like your alias says! Get a zenki89! DUH MAN!.. good luck on your searching for the right 240. A lot in the bay has been used and abused and crashed... And then fixed up and sold for full price again... Welcome to zilvia too.
