Looks like they are going after the Scion market because Toyota is making a killing on Scion. Lots of similar features and probably similar pricing too.

I agree, I wouldn't be surprised if we get the sportier variants once the car is sucessful.

It looks fine for what it is, an entry-level car, it certainly looks better than the Sentra. Should do fine against Scions, Kias, etc. Would like to have more information than '1.8 Liter engine'. What they really need to do is build one of these:
http://automobilemag.com/auto_shows/2005_new_york/0503_nissan_sport_01.jpg

with 300hp and AWD.

The Nissan Sport Concept. I love it. Doesn't look like an AWD platform though.

As if you would really buy it.

The Versa is based off that concept, and as you can see....a two door variant is possible. Well its already out in Europe as a Renault (well the platform atleast).

If they made the Sport Concept with 4 doors, 300hp and AWD (and looking like the concept, not the weak-sauce Versa), I would seriously consider it to replace my Expedition

So they're going to be selling the Tiida there now, huh?

They should've brought the Cube over two years ago.

that car is very nice for a entry level. i wonder if i'll see any riced out in 6 months. let mitsu and subby kill each other with their cars, we have nothing to compete against them. awd is boring anyway, i want something rwd, small and 4 cyl

All i have to say is that thing is ugly, and if that is based off the concept, they really went off from the better loookin concept.

yeah, they should have brought a lot of the Kcars over a long time ago...go figures. i really dont like the US market =/ as for the versa /tiida i like the hatch a lot more. the rear of the coup doesnt really seem to flow well. i think the cars in japan are an acquired taste.... i noticed a lot of americans dont like the Kcar boxy style much. or the really round ones either but i think in another 5 yrs itll be a lot more accepted. ppl forget theyre supposed to be economical, not JGTC cars...

Eww it looks like a renault they should just bring the micra over here and call it a day.

awd market is pretty full:

STi and EVO dominate the sports segment, and have way more invested in that area than Nissan does already. the GT-R will be an entirely different price point (double these guys price) and won't compete.
Starting from scratch to create a 30k awd sports sedan to battle these guys is a losing battle.

Legacy GT (possible Spec B later?) and Mazdaspeed6 own the sporty nicer sedan segment

Audi has the pure luxury segment.

There's nothing wrong with fighting Scion and stealing sales, as long as the money goes into paying for the new GT-R's research, and eventually filtering that new tech down into the Z and even better into a RWD car in the 25-15K segment.

Who designs this crap? :fruit: That's fucking ugly just like most of the new cars Toyota and Suzuki made, Those wheel wells are fucking tiny compared to the car almost looks like someone stretched the car vertically.....

p.s. Scions (Toyota) are fucking Ugly too.

p.p.s. The current Sentra is much better looking than this... thing.

Jeeze Rogue, calm down. It's just a car dude, no need to blow a gasket.

I'll admit it's not my cup of tea, but I'm sure Nissan thinks there is a market for it. Probably not the same people that love the 240, but a market exists, I'm certain.

WILDACEX187
10-03-2005, 10:56 PM
^^^ exactly. this car was brought here because of the market that the scion has created. scion has been out for what, 2 years? the market is still fresh so better get while the gettin's good.

smily_vigor
10-04-2005, 12:22 AM
^^^^^^^^ That I surely agree with. Yes we all know it's ugly (and no the new civic isn't ugly like the earlier dude said) but they have to get in on the market while it isn't yet saturated. Look at BMW with that new 1 series and also Mercedes with the B and R series it all the same thing. Honestly I just wish they could make the designs a bit more pleasing

WILDACEX187

if they put little things like color calipers, nicer rims and sum cool stickers i bet it'll sell.

with gas prices going on the up and up i dont think america is looking for the next AWD moster...theyre looking for what gets good mileage, has good storage, and is dependable. I dont think everyone is into loud, annoying, illegally modded cars that are always in some news at 7 telling about how it either A flew off a cliff or B JDM drifted into a pedestrian. similar to what option zero was saying, money doesnt grow on trees and I think it will take a lot of work to get a stronger hold on the sport car market, and work means money and hopefully competing iwth toyota for the compact car market will help revenue which they can put towards other areas.

Geez the hatch doesnt even look bad, JDM this JDM that, go to Japan and see what 90% of the cars look like. on a diff note- reading back up to before i first posted i agree with mrmephistopheles, the cube would have been awesome. i wanted one since hte day it came out haha. maybe ill hold off on buying a scion and wait for the tiida or wutever its called to come out

I totally agree with you. Its like, everyone isnt being 'original' . . . It looks like a Scion XA crossed with a toyota matrix. Like, they are going for what sells the best.Which is okay for them i guess... :nono: The 2000+ models are goin in a bad direction. The 90's were IMO the best cars ever made in that era. :yum:

This is blatantly untrue, don't be a tard.

Oh, and the Cube is 100% con-motherfuckin-firmed to come to the US, and I believe it's the same current Z11 (or N11, or whatever) as is presently sold in the Land of the Rising Sun.

And seriously, 240 owners seem like some confused individuals. In one thread, we have people saying that Nissan should be building a turbocharged AWD car like the Evo and STI, and in another thread like 4 lines down, people are saying how it'd be a huge fucking travesty if the next Silvia was an AWD Turbo car. Seriously, who cares which car has which name....

Anyway, w00t Kei cars, we need more of them. At least it isn't another goddamned Hummer. It's an entry-level tiny-ass car, and I think that by those standards, it looks pretty cool. I'm still a bit partial to the new Yaris (i.e. Vitz)....

SUVs arent sold in japan though...

but it was the increase of sells of the SUV in america that killed the rwd sportscar like the 240sx, 300z, rx-7, supra, etc in the mid-late 90's
