You've chosen the right media for majoring. Other traditional arts, pencilling, inks, 'basic' stuff, have like, so little places to intern, or work for. Seems like traditional art is a dying style. Stupid digital stuff.

Now, THAT is a still-life!

I like the first one you posted too, of the shops. You're good. I'd actually consider buying some of your stuff, if I weren't poor.

Have you considered trying to sell the heineken one to heineken? I guess they would probably not like the cigarettes in it, though.

have you tried to get some of theese into the Gallery in san jose, they kind of have a hip hop feel to them.

I'm taking painting 101 at my university right now. I'm an industrial design (product design) major.

I've got a few questions for you:
How do you start the painting process? Sketch>sketch on canvas>paint? or do you make a sketch then go right for the paint? My TA is teaching us to avoit sketching on the canvas (or our underpainting)

I think this technique is really holding me back considering that is how I create my forms (through sketching) as sketching is the BIGGEST part of the whole ideation process...I make around 100 for onen product, maybe more considering sketches on napkins/desks/notebooks for other classes.

no, his birthday is mid-october, he's just on the floor cause he gets piss drunk every weekend...nigel treats every weekend like it's his birthday and drags all of us down with him, good times, good times... I guarantee that any of you folks that come party with us on his birthday are gonna have the time of your life haha, NEVER fails with nigel lol!

btw, that drawing with the ripple effect in black and white is ALL free hand, it's UNBELIEVABLE in person, the detail in the ripples and distortion is WOW...awesome work for someone that drinks so much hahahaha

hey, sorry for the late reply. thanks for all the positive feed back...

mixxamike....GET DRUNK AND SPLASH PAINT ALL OVER THE PLACE...THEN SEE WHAT HAPENS! HAHA ..okok.....its a very complicated question that you are asking, most of the paintings that i have shown you guys are on illustration boards. so a good pencil sketch is very crucial. when i do paint on canvas, i usually use chalk (like the kind for black boards) or a very light pencil just to indicate where things are. but its nice to have a clean canvas to work on. Depending if you are going to paint in a more expressive/ realist manner, it would vary. expressive as no pencil, and realistic with a strong sketch.

but honestly, do whatever the hell makes you happy, just apply what they teach you. i usually do whatever the hell i want, and whatever technique it takes to achieve the final image. and i usually come up with an idea in a quick sketch (5 mins) >sketch on canvas> then paint. or you could keep doing drawings until you like it, and transfer it onto the canvas.

hope that helps...

nigel
