ok i keep seeing people talk about cobra MAFs are you talking about mustang corbras? that would make my day since i work in the parts department of a ford dealership...embarressing anyway. it would be obviously much easier for me to get this then a z32 maf

What other Cobras do you know of that have a MAF? The answer is: NONE. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to alter the MAF connector? Come on man, your in a FORD parts dept. If you don't know your own product, why are you playing with Nissans?

go easy man.
if he's JUST NOW heard about using the cobra MAFS, then chances are, he's fairly new to the 240 community, at least modification wise.
driftNWC - cobra MAF units are used on hi HP SRs typically, and do require some minor wiring and a sleeve converter IIRC... neither of which is very expensive.

i got my first 240s about 5 days ago and i'm building my sr20 to hopefully above the 400 hp mark, so should i go with the very easy to comeby cobra maf or look for a z32

Shift_control - with 83 posts, you're not a senior member. You're not an expert. You have no business trying to make new members feel stupid. In other words, shut the fuck up. This wasn't a dumb question, and didn't need your dumb answer. If I see you post some more e-thug crap towards members asking legit questions, I'm going to limit your access on Zilvia for a long, long time.
I've got a Cobra maf on my KA-T. It's a hunk of shit, though.
It comes off a '93 Ford cobra, and requires the OEM Ford connector ($15) to be bought with it. Then, 5 or 6 wires get spliced together, and you're done. However, you need to get an ECU tune, and JWT is the ONLY company/tuner to support the Cobra maf. It runs out of flow at ~350hp under normal circumstances, so JWT incorporates a signal splitter into the ecu, so that the cobra unit works to ~600hp. This signal splitting lowers the resolution of the MAF, which makes it a bad candidate. Especially when a 300zx (z32) maf is good to 550+hp without signal splitting. And, a cobra maf has a 3.5" inlet and 3" outlet, which makes getting piping made much harder. A z32 maf is ~3" inlet and outlet... so a 3" filter (99.5% of cone filters) and 3" intake pipe all line up correctly.

So I take it there really is no advantage the Cobra has over the Z32, unless you're planning to make over 550hp? Good info, thanks!

The Cobra MAF is only used by JWT b/c the voltage curve can be found online...so tuning for it took no R&D.
Z32 is better for all application above 250rwhp...Cobra MAF is just what you get if you go with JWT.
Works good for up to ~350rwhp, like my setup (50lb / Cobra MAF / KA-T program)...but if you have the choice up front...use thje Z32.
S-AFC does not support the Cobra MAF either...

Is this universal for all Cobra MAFS? A buddy of mine has the chance to get an '03' SVT MAFS and was wondering if it would out flow the Q45 he currently has. Still not tunable with an AFC?? What about an Apexi Power FC?

No, and no.
Again, unless you're running a JWT ECU, and use a VERY specific ('93 or 94) Cobra MAF...then it won't work. And it's a shitty option anyway...Z32 has much better resolution.
