damn, weight difference... :bowrofl:
I get about 30 to 31 mpg running on non-syn oil... 29ish on syn oil... let's not even talk about city gas mileage (horrible).

is it safe to say that "if you get good hwy gas mileage or good gas mileage in general, your motor is in good condition"?

Ya, I'm pretty sure that's around what I get. I just figure it was because of the j30 diff, tall azz tires and me driving like an old man (cuz I am).
Of course the high mpg also explains my 16.2 sec 1/4 mile . zzzzzzzzz

i get about 28mpg from 95% highway and the rest city. Mashing half the time on the highway to get to work :hyper:

I recently went to the Upper Peninsula (MI). My car was an automatic Zenki. Got 29 mpg on an all highway stretch on the way up. After that, with some mixed city and hwy driving, got around 27. I'm hoping to up that a couple of points with the manual conversion. Plus, I've only just got the car, so I did do a fair piece of 'spirited' driving. My brother did the same trip with his '95 powered '89 coupe (manual) and got 30 or 31 mpg, can't remember which.

I get consistantly get above 30 mpg, never went below 25 though, and that was including an all day event/chicago drive.

Man, I can't believe these figures, my sohc never got above 22 -23 mpg. One trip I averaged 17 mpg, all highway. I knew I was running a little rich, but goddamn.

no means to thread jack... but is whatever I wrote true? I thought if the car gets great mileage, the engine should be in good shape...?

Yes. Not only that but the rest of the driveline and that your brakes aren't dragging. Whatever else you want to say too. lol

Kinda funny, before my last track event i averaged about 22 mpg. Used some 120 mix gas (1/2 120, 1/2 91) beat the hell out of the car for the day, filled up afterwards. Now i average 28 city with all spirited driving. I bet I'd get almost 40 on a road trip @ 80 mph. Best I've gotten is 380 miles on a tank.
EDIT: The KA has about 150k on it, the last 30k by me and most of it hard driving.

WOW! wth? i get waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better milage than that... granted im on rebuilt motor with synthetic but damn... i get like 30-35mph freeway (75mph usually) and like 27ish city if i drive like an old woman. "spirited" i still get like 20-22mpg.
at least 300miles per tank.
wiiierrrrrrrrrd.

ka's have a very thin threshhold for city to highway mileage. when i drive to miami from my house ( about 70 miles.) i can put about 3.6 gals and make it there.
in the city i drive about 25-30 miles a day, and i drive fairly hard, and 10 bucks of gas, about 3.5 gals. gets me 3 days worth of driving

Funny thing about that, there is a HUGE difference between city and hwy on my KA. Maybe it's because im a mile high, but if anything I should be getting worse mikeage than you sea level guys, not more.

I got 14 mpg city the other day and I was babying it...what does that mean for my engine? (typically I get around 17 city) My best city/hwy mix ever is 22ish mpg.

Damn the best I got was 410miles on a tank. Thinking this was going to be a high number, I was disappointed to find its: 410 miles / 15.9gallon tank = 25.78 all highway
The worst I got for normal driving was 100.8/15.9= 6.33mpg
but that was running so rich, that you had to change the oil every 100miles do to 1 quart of gas in the oil. Its kind of weird to change the oil putting in 4 quarts and pouring out 5. Non the less It was very expencive to drive.

i get about 21mpg with some fairly spirited driving to and from work and about 4 min warmup time every time i start the car. I live about 4 miles away from my work. Mainly I do that and a good amount of city driving. ive got a 5 sp SOHC with 85k miles. Car was an auto when I got it but doing the 5 speed swap gained me 2mpg-3mpg. worst ive ever done is probabbly 14-15mpg and thats with good fresh tune up parts on a beat auto.

Don't care on the track. Probably very low teens or something.

I am 26-28 MPG, mostly city-ish driving, I am 55MPH from my house for 6 miles, 45MPH for the next 4 and then 35 for the last 4 from work, reverse the orders on the way back home. Keep in mind, however, that NC traffic is weird, so there are lights for me to stop at all the way.

I got 31 with the AC on coming down to socal in my stock S14. 136k on the motor.
But my track car is like 8mpg at the track (all WOT high rpm use), and like 18mpg mixed city and highway. Black rear bumper anyone? I could take a bunch of fuel out of the low load/rpm area of the map but I'm too lazy. haha.

i am still in school, 1 more year to go through :D
