Koni objectively tests these shocks:
Koni Sport, KYB AGX, Tokico Illumina, and OEM.

It's very interesting to see that the compression valving is not increased with increased shock value setting. It's true for all of the shocks except for the front struts Illuminas.
I became interested in these shock dynos after seeing WhiteGLX's shock dyno for the Buddy Club Race Spec Coilovers.

Similarly, compression is not affected at all.
Since a degressive rate for compression seems very good for the street, is that how many of the good coilovers are valved? That way, you can tolerate quick suspension movements (i.e. harsh roads) but when on a road course or auto-x, you still have the performance you want.
