Don't you have to be at least 18 to have one of those jobs?

^ lol, 1988. The 240's are as old as he is. Anyway, you can work at JiffyLube at 16, or most oil changing places. But I recomend studing and staying in school. But If you want to get a job, dont get a dead end job working with toothless rednecks.

why do u want a job like that? if u have the means(by way of parents), stay home on your ass and chill. being an "assistant" at an oil change spot is like being the guy that wipes the sweat off of the brow of a ditch digger. my vote is u get on at a hollister or something, prolly make the same cash for less hassle
fold clothes > being covered in oil/coolant
(note that i've done the carwash/oil change thing for extra cash while i was in school. and i took the latter job as a means to simply wait for a tech. spot in a dealership garage, which i got eventually)
* my point after all of that - if there is no general purpose or greater plan, NEVER take a greasy dead end job "just cause".
any questions??

im sure he wasnt planning on making a career out of it. sheesh. if he wants to work part time at an oil change place, go for it. ofcourse on top of going to school.

I dont agree with ROGER. Getting a job asap in life is good for you as a person. Increases your ability to handle responsibility and boosts character. Let alone tagging shit onto a resume...
Anyway, a friend of mine was a porter for a dealership when he was younger. I don't know what age they allow though. If not, work at a shop like pep boys or auto zone...

Work sucks ass. Get a job that you are going to like atleast 50% of the time. My job is really shitty im about to quit today its just not worth how much i work for what they pay me.

I love my job!!! Medical, Dental, Retirement, plus they take care of my Family. And there is always room to expand my resume. :D But not everyone can handle it, nor do some even wish to even try. :mepoke:

Yo ThatGuy, I take it you are in the USMC.
I've been wanting to enlist.
Long story short:
enlisted when I was 18 (6 years ago)-0311-, had slip disc back injury, MEPS rejected me, recruiters said no surgery or it will disqualify me.
Now: I am 24, 1 more year to graduate, asked about Officers Candidates Course, Im passed my junior year, so I'm not able to do the 2 6weeks summer program. Now I wait til I graduate and apply for OCC.
What do you think? Yes, It is my ambition to serve this country before I want to do anything further. I know there are many other ways to serve but I want to do it this way.
Friends have suggested different branches, mainly Air Force. I have friends in all branches (enlisted) and 5/6 say Airforce.
*any suggestions?

Air Force probably is your best bet. Wasn't my choice though, I didn't want to be anything but a Marine. There is a HUGE difference between 0311 and an Officer in the USAF though. My best wishes to you in whatever you decide.

try jiffy lube they hire but i dont recomend it, i worked there for a year when i was 17 but after 5 months i hated cars. I learned a lot about automotives but putting my hobby and my job together didnt work out. I do recommend you trying hotels as a bellman i made bank off tips and you learn people skills. While i was assisting two girls with their luggage they asked me when i was off, so i could show them around.

^^^ I can agree with that, if only for the last point made... My SECOND job was at Celebration Station (google it if you don't have any in your city), and I was frequently accosted by chicks who didn't know shit about the area. Luck had it that one of my coworkers lived at the other end of my street and we were good friends BEFORE the job, and in such went to the same high school, so we turned this into some FUN nights...
... damn, high school was a LONG time ago.

Don't get a greasy job unless its going to put you closer towards an end career, get an easy job if you just wanna save up. Get a job that forces you to be around people, people skills is the best skill to have to get ANY job. To get a job you've gotta impress somebody. Any job that forces you to be around people will help you with that.

Wakarnold's yo.
Ive had Id say about 11 jobs throughout HS/College. Do whatever comes up and if you dont like it, switch. Worry about building resume and all that shat through college with internship etc. God knows I dont put McEds on my resume today.
