I just really want to know what the difference in this than just a regular welded open diff? I mean, are the welds more reinforced? I don't see how this could act any different than any other welded diff. I've heard alot of great things about, so I was just curious. . .

he did an entire event on his diff with no GEAR OIL!
his welds dont need lubrication to withstand stress.

My guess, he's gone thru many testing stages, and revisions. Besides cleaning, etc etc, more support welds?

welded diff? waste of gas... use JB weld for awesome JDM lockness

so if I pay for a welded diff, I will actually get a welded diff right?
You're a genius

you dont HAVE to get the weld locd diff though, just find a decent fab shop that is local and talk to them. If they seem like they know what they are talking about then give it a go, open diffs are cheap anyways.

I'd look for GOOD welders, being as any fab shop can have any of their lackies work on it,and end up making it FUBAR.

Heres the difference. We have welded over 100 diffs in 3 years, and onnly 1 of them has came apart do to the customer installation error.
We have a very refined welding prosess that uses a completely different gas and filler material then anyone would be able to come up with at any fab shop. We have also done enough of these to know how to do it safely, and without warping the ring gear.
Put it this way. For next season im using a 400hp ls1 v8 motor in a rx7, with the stock hel diff welded, and im using tiresw that are 285 wide. This is going to be a real testiment to the welded diffs durability.

great drifting solution as well as big step up from open diff in terms of grip driving. I highly reccomend

+1 for weld locd,
if you're going to get a welded diff you should get one from Luke, he knows what he is doing, and has a guarantee...

Def +1 for Luke and his Weld Locd Ver3
I'm running it myself, along with almost the whole shock drifting team. (I can't think of anybody on there that doesn't) And no, welded diff won't snap your axels -_-

How many diffs has your local fab shop welded? You're about to get 100+ members saying they rock a WELD LOCD VERSION 3. We all love them. Get it from Luke!!!

I laugh my ass off.

I just saw Doug at the DDay competition. Pimpin that weld Locd.
Too bad the judges are biased cuz their GF were driving. Nadine isn't all she's cracked up to be, being as she's got years under her belt, you'd expect more.

How does a Weld Loc'd diff affect daily driving? I've heard rumors that its not a good idea and eats tires. So whats the truth?
jayka

yea like bali said i heard alot about welded diffs eating tires and/or sending people straight into a tree.
Does the weld loc3 have the same characteristics of a normal welded diff ex. chirping tires in normal driving conditions
SochBAT

Daily driving a welded diff isn't the greatest of times. There are other factors besides the diff itself that constitutes to the tire screeching, like tire rating, driving surface, heat of the driving surface as well as the tires, and driving lines while turning. the sharper the turn, the more likely you'll have tire screech.
It doesn't eat up tires, it actually burns down tires at an even rate, so you'll never have to worry or get sad when you've got one tire thats extra meaty, and the other bald.
Doug did pretty damn well, but IMHO, the contest was rigged. How?
Not to be hating or anything, but Nadine did horrible in that event, IIRC, she span out once or so. Her line wasn't as good as a few other drivers, and her smoke was barely there. Chris (flybert) did awesomely well, better than Nadine IMHO. But the fact that her BF and a few others were judges allowed them to advanced. I think its time for unbiased judges... Then again, what do i know?

A welded diff is a welded diff is a welded diff...
They will all act the same.
Only difference is whether or not the welds break, and anyone with a welder and a little comon sense can weld one up so that it will never break.
I dunno why everyone MUST have a "Weld Loc V3" or whatever...take it to a local place, have them turn the power up on their Lincoln 135, and weld the spider gears to the shafts they reside on, then weld the inner gears where they mesh...easy, and WILL NOT break.
There is no magic here, and whether you get it welded from Luke, or Jim-Bob down at the Weld-o-rama...any competent welder can knock this out in 10 minutes.

I had mine welded by a certified welder before I knew Luke. It snapped about a week after getting it done. Then I got Luke's, beat the crap out of my car, and sold it a year later with it still holding up. Version 3 is not just a gimmick, he actually found ways to improve on the other 2 versions making sure that it does not break.

If by him stating that it's the same being as how when you decel or accel the 2way locks up and power is even. Between the wheels then it is true. They both feel the pretty simular when driving between the two it's just that the weld is never going to unlock like a 2way would so it's more consistant.
There is slight understeer when entering a turn being as how the inside wheel still has power. Point being, sure most would love to have a 2way for the bling factor, but in reality when you are sideways they both fell exactly the same. My aliance will be with the weld lock till the end. So keep on laughing
What i meant AL..was that they feel similar. And for someone who's skill level is like me, or you especially, you shouldn't be so nitpicky with your parts.
The best guy i've seen out there using welded is Luke. And while he's not the best drifter ever, he's still good. I know the 2-way gives more slippage and more grip, but your analysis of most things drift related is blown way out of proportion.
