Does anybody know what you need to be able to put some stuff inside your car, and then be able to look up on your laptop exactly where its at? I know it can be done, but I'm just what it takes. Hopefully on a budget.

No, we won't help you stalk your Ex-GF....
I have seen some rigged up stuff with a computer and cell phone to the net. They suck a lot of power don't work when the car is off. They cost a lot to set up. These were in show/dealer cars for extreme demo's.
Your best option is to go with a service.

I know you want to be "Jane Bond" but it ain't worth it with the price of these systems coming down as their popularity goes up. LoJack, Viper, Peak, Blue Water, Spy Chest, Boomerang, GlobalGuard are all good brands. I'll grab the websites since you can't figure out Google.

You are going to have to get a cell data plan at $40-80(depending on MB) a month for that system. Most of the big brands are Half that.
To really build your own you're looking at:
Laptop hardwired to the car: $1500+
GPS: $100
Cellular Wireless Connection card: $250
Auto inverter/charger:$100
Then you have to keep the battery charged sucking all that power to run the system. Unless you want so special "mobile office" setup it's not worth it over a pre-made system.

here's a link to one of those systems for anybody else that finds this thread, so far this is one of the simplest, budget oriented kit I've seen. Thanks drift girl.
edit: are there any montly charges for geotracer?

OR, you could always juryrig a wireless crap cam and a d-mic. They always state where they are going when they steal cars.

BUT, you can watch, guess the speed, watch the wheel to see steering, etc etc. Save your $ for your gym membership. Or you can give the instructor some special attention.
