View Full Version : Buying an S13?

I was wondering where I can find an S13 with a blown motor. I was thinking a junkyard but what kind of conditions would the body be in. I would prefer a car with a blown motor but a decent interior and exterior condition.
What range would a car liek this range from. I am looking to buy a car so that I can get an SR swap right away so the total is as cheap as possible.

And also I was wondering if there are any good ways to convince my parents into getting me a swap (they will be loaning me money for the car). They do not know much about cars but I need some sort of reason that sounds like a good reason (other than I will be faster than a lot of cars on the streets).

tell your parents it gets better gas mileage since its a 2.0L instead of a 2.4L. Also, it will have only around 35K miles on it which is lower than any KA you can find unless you rebuild it which costs some money. You don't have to mention to em the part about the sr being turbo either <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I basicly did the same thing. After months I thought I would never find a 240 with a blown motor. That very day bam right there on autotrader.com Anyways it was about 500 bucks, and the body was in decent shape (only 1 dent and a few dings) not too bad for the money. Keep looking around. Junkyard cars probably wont be in the greatest of condition. You could also just look for a really cheap running S13. Ive seen some for a little over 1000. Hope that helped a little

how much will I need for an SR swap with labor costing around 1500. Or if you could just list wat basic parts I need if i get when getting the swap (i.e. exhaust, fuel pump, fmic etc.) and wat general price they are going to be.

I am right now guessing that it will cost around $6K for an engine swap with fmic, and 300zx fuel pump. Does that sound about right?

junkyards don't sell cars [in minnesota at least]. &nbsp;i've tried buying several ae86s from junkyards, but none of them will ever let me because it's very hard to obtain a clean title and such. &nbsp;the best they said they could do was sell me the front and rear clips.

Well I was quoted for engine and labor plus the cost to switch from auto to manual : 3500. That was roughly after tax. I went to a local place in Kirkland called stage performance. I told them I was planning on getting a clip, but they then told me that they could get the SR20 for 1700. They said about 875 for labor. And that everything would be running very smoothly when I took the car home. Now Im not sure about the price of the 300zx fuel pump, but I know most FMIC's are about 1-2 grand for a nice set up with core + piping. Good luck and keep us updated.

6k is a lot to pay for the whole swap. &nbsp;I paid $5500 total including running 240 w/ 100k SR and instal

Look on line to see if anybody in your area does the swap i.e. shade tree mechanic.

BTW the way I talked my wife into it was the money we were saving could be a down payment on a new car and more car payments or get an new engine and no car payments and essentially a new car
