Pull the radio back out and fix the wire you grounded out.

if you dont know how to trouble shoot general electrical issues...you might as well find somebody who can. If anything it prolly have something to do with the dimmer wire into your radio.

I am assuming that it is an aftermarket radio. First, like they said above check all your wiring. If you have ANY wires that are not connected make sure they are insulated(capped or taped off)-no matter if they are coming from car or radio- insulate them! Most likely, again assuming that it is an aftermarket radio, the problem will be with you illumination and dimmer wire. I have seen several instances where the illumination wire(usually orange/white from aftermarket deck), a postive trigger, is tied into grounding dimmer(sometimes orange/white on factory side plug), a negative. Disconnect all orange wires, Replace fuse, test out. With these wires disconnected the radio will no longer dim with light switch, but you can without shortly for testing purposes. If you no longer have that probelm check both side of the harness and make sure you are hooking up illumination to illumination. And hopefully that solves your problem :bigok:
Again all of this is assuming that this is not a factory deck. Hopefully of some assistance to you !!! :x:

yes, it is an aftermarket deck, when i put it back in and turned the lights on, i saw a little "puff" of smoke come out of the dash around the radio/cluster, so what could that mean>?

Generally a puff of smoke anywhere means trouble :duh:, but sometimes it is minor. It is most likely you burned up the illumination circuit on your radio. Try unhooking all the illumination/dimmer wires like I said in my previous post. If you did blow the illumination output it is no big deal, just don't hook it back up and the radio will always stay bright (will not dim with headlights).
Try this and let me know what happens.
i'm having a similar problem, but I didn't do any recent electrical things, my brake lights just went out. I change the fuse but they just blow everytime. Can anyone help here?
