17x9 rim with a +20 offset?

i'm guessing it will rub on the inner struts. Why do you want to go 275's on a 9" for?

i know i will have to use spacers..i just love big tires :wiggle:

my only worry is that it might affect my steering angle...it shouldn't though

your going to have to get wide fenders if you want to make it fit. 275s especially on a 9" will give you alot of sidewall flex.

30mm widebody fenders should do the trick

how will FENDERS affect your SIDEWALL FLEX?

You could have 100mm fenders, it won't do shit to affect your tires being too big for the rim.

i was talking about a 275 tire on the 9" wheel, re-read it

you know i was referring to redsuns? just checkin'

Because he apparently doesn't know if you stick too wide a tire on too skinny a rim, the tire is far too squared, i don't think you maximize contact patch that way. Plus response will suck.

And fenders won't do anything to affect that shittiness, and you might need a lower offset to push the tire away from suspension components.

I'm not even sure why you'd want a 275 unless you had power to turn that much rubber, it's more rotational inertia

I'd like to see that, but it seems WAAAY overboard unless you want to be ghetto fabulous and have wheels that stick out like whoa.

According to the owner the bigger issue was diameter rather than width. But he is running a 45 series, maybe a 35 series would be the best choice.

As you can tell fenders are pulled.

Now you want it on the front IMO that is the dumb idea you don't really have much room up front, and you would need overfenders, low offset wheels, and a high car.

yo johnathan, i just got my new rims..17x9 +17 but i'm runnign 215 and 225's on them...so opposite end of the spectrum

but the fronts i got a 15mm spacer right now...gonna pull the fenders some. same w/ the rears, right now i got a 5mm spacer but the 15's will go on when i get the fenders pulled out enough

you are going to have to sledge the hell out of everything in your fender well to get full angle.

dont need bigger than 245 in the front anyway. perfect for 9 inch

People call me nuts for wanting to run a 245/40-17 on a 9"+20 all around...

I ran 245/40/17 on 8.5 + 33 in the front with no problems and perfect flushness. 275's 9.5 +33 on the back and the tires stuck out 3/4 of an inch, but the rims were flush. No roll, just stock body.

they only made a 275/35 in an 18 inch whell..so I had to go with the 40 series

you can minitub the front end...that of course involves cutting out the fender wells and then welding bars over it...i'm sure you've seen under JR's hood of his S13...yeah lol the driver's side only

you'll still understeer

Ian
09-18-2005, 07:38 PM
why would he understeer with a 275 up front?

elphkotm
09-19-2005, 02:01 AM
Yeah, it's the opposite. Having fat tires up front eliminates understeer because it increases front grip. All within relative sanity though. 275 is pretty out there for a front tire. Your steering response will decrease, feel will suck, and the car will seem lazy.

shouldn't really affect my setup...i have solid stuff everywhere

it will affect anyones setup. just because you can mount the tire doesnt mean it will function well on that rim. Going to a 275 will DECREASE your cars handling over using a 235 or 245 (which is MUCH more optimal to be using on a 9 inch wheel.) the only reason to go to a 275 would be if you think it "looks pretty" sidewall flex will be horrible and the car will just all out drive like crap compared to a properly sized and mouted tire. if you want a 275 go with a bigger wheel... Just be prepared for the cost and modification to fit something like this. More than likely your going to have to cut and re-route the wire harness in the drivers side well so you dont just burn through all your wiring in the first 20 miles. Custom tubs are very likely needed, Frame and structural modification would be required if you want to be able to turn the wheel. doubtful you could run less than 3-4 degrees camber. Also id like to see a set of coilovers that would clear that size tire on that wheel in the front. As it is if I run kts coils and putting on 245s with a 17x9+20 wheel I may or may not have to implement a spacer. These coilovers have GREAT clearance over many others (like the joke clearance of megan racing coils. great coils but barely clear stock)

Umm the only thing i can think of it that it might rub the insides when you turn. Im running 17x10 +12 FN01s with 245/45s up front. I dont have the plastic under fender cover and i had to "modify" the cabin sides of the wheel well cuz it rubs at full turn. It rubs slightly on the wiring harness booth on the driver side. Also fenders are ghetto rolled.

Edit: I looked it up and 245/45 and 275/40 are pretty much the same total radius/diameter.

well 2 things guys...

1. this guy is going from stock size wheels up front, so this will be an upgrade
2. its' a trailored drift car...not his daily driver or anything...

but yeah, i personally dont like the huge tire feeling...after driving on stretched tires i realized why people do it, the response is remarkably better then if it's a bigger tire...and what's like 2 cm of rubber compared to the stiffness of the stretch?

you know you want to touch the rubber

Then he doesn't need the grip. 245s in a decently sticky compound will work.

my secondary set of wheels will be a 245/275 tire setup on the same size wheels

i just want the most rubber i can fit on the car for the nice and shiny wheels :wiggle:
