i have been searching the net to find information on putting ca16 cams into a ca18det. from what i can find they are longer duration and slightly higher lift, and they bolt straight in. apparently it increases torque, but i need to know whether it is top or bottom or midrange torque.
i am rebuilding my ca18det(had a blown headgasket and now its gotten out of control :naughty: ) the block has been skimmed, and bored to spec for the new forged pistons. i have a metal head gasket on the way. t28bb turbo etc...
just has mild head work with light port and polish, recut valve seats, new seals etc...
i want to use the car for drag, but it will be mostly a street car and so will be that much heavier than a stripd shell.
really what i am after is some good low end torque to get it moving, will these ca16 cams give me much improvement?
the euro and us websites have a lot of forum stuff about this, but it all seems to be a bunch of opinions, so i thought i'd get a few more...cheers...

as long as total tq increases, it will always be better.

longer duration/higher lift will generally increase in the mid->upper range, though timing will change that somewhat.

as u stated in your post its alot of opinions...ive yet to see any fact about these cams...i dont even know the specs but from what i have READ..they arent even worth the trouble even if yer head is torn apart....just go ahead and invest in a step one 256 or 264 cam....u can get a regrind from colt cams in canada or of course used or old stock hks/greddy/tomei etc
