this part i purchased was not for a 240sx, but that in no way changes the poor qualities of their customer service. the car is a 91 ford escort gt (aka mazda protege)
bought a clutch kit originally made for the mx-6. everything worked fine, except the clutch was preloaded. after taking off the tranny a couple of times i finally nailed it down to the throwout bearing. Purchased a stock replacement bearing which did workout to be shorter then the one i got with the kit. Put the new bearing in, everything worked beautifully. To feed my curiousity i called up coximport and told them i believe the bearing they shipped with my kit was incorrect and i would like it checked out to see whether it's a correct bearing or whether the bearings in the mx-6 and protege are in fact different (as act lists the same part number for the 2, while advance has different pns for the 2 cars).
now, after about 3 months of the part being checked out, me being too busy to call them, i finally got a chance and dialed coximport's phone number. The part has been checked out by act and wasn't found faulty. Here is a paraphrazed dialog between me (M) and the cox import representative (R)
M: So has the part been checked by act?
R: Yes, and they told us that there is nothing wrong with the part - it's adjustable for different height. (which i know is bullshit since its a single chunk of metal, but whatever)
M: So... has the part been shipped back to me?
R: Umm no. Since you said you already got a replacement, i told act to keep it.
M: Yeah, but it's still a $35 value. Am i getting a refund for it hten?
R: No, since there is nothing wrong with it, therefore we are not responsible.
M: Wait, are you saying you just screwed me out of $35?
R: Ummmm, well let me call ACT and see if they still have it, although they only keep parts for 30 days.
...
R: ACT no long has it, since it has been more then 30 days (i didnt argue cuz i wasnt sure, but i believe last time i called them was 3 weeks ago and they said it was still undecided upon).
M: So how did YOU end up making a decision for ACT to keep MY part?! Why wasn't it shipped back to me?!
R: You would have to pay shipping on it, and i wasnt doing it out of my pocket. I sent you an email about it when we got word from ACT.
M: I haven't gotten any emails of that nature from you, although i did get an email asking me to confirm my year and model so you had my email correct. But doesn't matter, you could call up and leave me a message.
R: We did also call and you don't have an answering machine.
M: Thats bullshit - i have it, and its working just fine.
R: Well when we called it was off.
M: Well, should've called again, again and again untill i responded somehow. If you left an email with a question and i haven't replied to it, its obvious I didn't get it. You fucked up and i want my part back.
R: No, we didn't. It was your fault the machine is off. We are not responsible for it.
M: Ok, so whatever the throwout bearing is $35. But what if it was some part worth $350? Would you be as irresponsible as you were with my part?!
R: You were supposed to let us know what you want us to do with the part and authorize a shipping charge.
M: I CAN'T FUCKING DO THAT UNTILL I KNOW WHAT MY OPTIONS ARE! You were supposed to call me and let me know what's up.....So you are not going to do anything about this situation?
R: No.
M: Well then, all i can do is go and post this conversation on every automotive message board i frequent. Have fun losing customers.
At which point i hung up. Well, there is no chance i'm every shopping through coximport again, and i hope all of you make the right decisions too. This is so far the WORST customer service experience i've had in all 3-4 years i've been messing with cars, and i've dealt with a lot of companies.
