pretty sure that skyline shifter is supposed to have a plastic bushing on the end

Hey Kenny I think that OE skyline shifters act as a short shifter in SRs and KAs. Thas what I heard from some guys at RB Motoring. BTW you suck having a hotness shifter!!!

after a few months having the B&M knock off shifter in my friends s14, we came to the conclusion: Going back to stock. First impresion was that it felt really nice, but there is some debate as to wiether the pivot point is correct on it, as with a few short shifters.

1st Gen C's Vs Stock.

I had to remove the plastic cap for it to fit in the tranny.

I love my C's.

I have the Ebay B&M style. It's great. Short and very solid. Has a rattle at high rpms though.

NIsmo Solid shifter isn't a short shifter. It makes the throws SOLID, which isn't the greatest word to describe the stock OEM JellyShifter.

B&Ms shifter is precise, and SOLID. Its tricky to get used to, you downshift from 5th to 2nd, and woops, wrong gear. It takes a while to get used to, to revmatch, etc etc. Again, you got to get use to it.

The OE Skyline shifter is missing the lower bushing, it's needed to prevent wear and allow for smoother engagement. Put it back on.

You can also get an aluminum bushing which feels 100% better than the plastic.

Are you referring to the cap that goes into the tranny? If so, I couldn't get mine to fit with the cap installed, so I removed it.

I think he is talking about this guy here:

... you couldn't get it to go into the tranny with it on? Was this the one that came with the shifter or off of the old one? Did you try getting the one off of your stock shifter and trying that? Did you curse really loudly and stomp around for at least 40 minutes?

I have a stock C's (1st gen)- felt waay shorter than stock at first, after one week, it feels like nothing- VERY easy to adapt to imho.

I have no experience with other brands so I can't compare, but i'd like to try them.

Nope, it was too big. Just removed it.. Had for nearly a year now.

Usually you pull the OE one off since a lot of aftermarket shifters don't come with the bushing.
The problem with not having it is when you select a gear there's a space between and around the bottom of the shifter and the linkage, so there's more slop and more wear put on both surfaces, the bushing is designed to absorb that initail shock of engagement. In most cases just replacing it with a new OE plastic bushing increase shift tightness and feel, the aluminum one is even better since it's a harder surface and doesn't degrade as much.

Tanabe sells it with their transmission bushing insert, it's a complete kit.

quick google comes up with the whole kit, but will they give me just the bushing at the end?

projectRDM

Doubtful. It's only like $89 and includes the bushing insert which is damn nice, better than the JGY/Peak type that eliminates the exhaust mount, allowing the entire exhaust to flap around under the car and break the manifold off.

Seconded. Rattle at around 5500rpms, which has caused it to rattle all the time now. I haven't pulled the console off to see what's up though.

I do like the feel of it. Much better than stock or the obx shifter.

OBX is a piece of douchey crap, and it rattles all the fucking time almost no matter what RPM after having it for 1-1/2 years. Don't waste your money. I wish I still had my stock shifter now.

My Tomei shifter is awesome. I went from an eBay copy that was missing screws (bought the car that way), to a Fidanza (lots better but basically a C's copy also) that was a little sloppy, to my eBay-bought Tomei that is the greatest thing on all this earth. :wiggle:

Does anybody have a link where I could buy a Tomei or C's online?

Also, what does the "version2" spec refer to?

I'm trying to decide between a NISMO short shifter and some no-name that says version 2. Wish I knew what that referred to though.

No such thing as a Nismo short shifter, as mentioned above it's just a solid shifter. Nissan Motorsports used to sell the C's, try them.

I love my b&m. Ive felt the c's and obx(ebay) type. The b&m is by far the best ive used. Short, really solid and no play at all. The c's would be my second choice, it is not as stiff as the b&m but does the job for a good price.

I know you posted this 3 weeks ago but I'm trying to find that GB post and can't. Where is it?

I don't care for the GB I just want to get in touch with the people that ran it so that I can buy from them.

First gen had a rattling problem over 5k RPM. Version 2 was fixed.

As for pics, i'd try searching it on Google.

after 2k rpm in fifth i hear it a lot and it gets noisy as the rpm's get higher. but it's cool and i live with it knowing i got one of the better ss's for the 240. having the springs so that it auto centers when you go into neutral is one thing i really like about it.

From what I experienced it was the weight, the fat metal thing on the shaft that vibrated since its held on with a c-clip. I Jb welded the thing on and the rattle never came back. Good luck to the guy that has the car now.
