hi everyone, i'm kinda new so if this question was asked i apologized because it sounds like its been dones to death already.

Recently i was readin the SportCampact magazine, and its artice on how to build a silvia S13 for under 3000.

Reading through it i noticed that that parts don't seem that hard to acquire, but since i'm not a backyard mechanic and i desperately want myself a Sil-80 but all i gots is my 240sx and don't know how to go about it.

I was wondering if anyone knows how much a proffessional swap would cost (labor only) and if anyone knows a respectable shop that i  could go to in NYC?

i think i can get hands on the silvia front end and an SR20det but, would it be cheaper to get one from a shop? internet?

i'm pretty sure this is a really general and all these have probably been asked so i'm sorry if i'm being an ass <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Well I can say this you are right it has been asked to death but this is what I would do. This is a board with a lot of info on it. You can take time to look through it and you will find a lot of very useful information. You can find anything on the SR-20DET you need in this site. Use the key words "SR Swap" SR-20" etc you will find the links to unstablehybirds, Jspec, boostdynamics and so on. If you can't find it then I am sure some one will post on this thread for you those very links. I don't think you are being an ass but I think it is very helpful to look through the sites history and you will get alot of your questions answered. Plus you will get to know how some of the members are by seeing how they respond to other people.

Happy hunting and welcome!

Heavy throttle (as duffman pointed out) is in NY -- and a VERY good place for you to start looking. &nbsp;http://www.heavythrottle.com/ &nbsp;and http://www.srswap.com/ &nbsp;<-- those two are the same pages, or should be.
Also look at www.unstable-hybrids.com

those are the most common starting places.

Thanks guys, the reason i asked is a wanted a car with at least 200hp that looks good, i i was considering either a Sil-80 convsersion or a GS-X eclipse...... so if the swap costs more than like 4-5k i might as well buy myself an eclipse with stock turbo right?.... plus since i'm not very mechanically saavy, is havin' a car that only a few people have in america a good idea? but for now. i guess price is the biggest thing for me...

THANKS!

I think my second-ever post was "what's a sr20"... &nbsp;

basic sr redtop install - $2400 engine + 1200 labor + 1000 parts + 1000 fmic +1500 turbo
(you'll be at 350 rwhp easily)

The total should come out a little more, gett'n a low milage sr (plus new turbo, fmic, fuel upgrade) swapped should cost the same to sale your car and buy a newer eclipse ($8000?).... &nbsp;I would think sr's more reliable stock comparing eclipse

plus there's also the rwd...

the power is yours! &nbsp;- captain planet

You're not mechanically savy, and you want a turbo DSM? You'd have better luck trying to do the swap.

whats wrong with a turbo DSM. duffman? do they really suck? i mean i heard they were pretty decent in reliability.

I'm a poor college student, i was hoping that i could have done all this with 4-5k plus if i sold my 240sx i thought i could get like 1-2k. but damn... 8000 for a swap? goddamn that makes me feel poor....

First, Eclipse GSX is all-wheel drive. Second, many places have turnkey installs for $3300-$3600 which will give you 205 hp to play with. As for the reliabilty of DSM's, it sucks.

Yes I know that the swap @ turbofour is about $900 -1000 labor. &nbsp; The engine comes with a stock turbo that is good enough in the begining and a front mount IC can be part of the labor for very little more if any. &nbsp; The $$$ also depends on which SR motor you want, &nbsp;S13, s14, or s15. &nbsp;8000 either gets you an awesome set up or your getting ripped off. &nbsp;you can realistically get a swap done and turn quaility HP for about 5K.

thanks for your help guys, but i think that i've decided to scrap the old 240, i mean it runs great for its age but, damn, i ain't ready to throw down 8000 on a car thats that old.

like i said, in this month's sport compact car magazine, they talked about building a silvia for 3000, i figured if it was a 1000 engine install plus 3000 parts then its a pretty sweet deal, but as it turns out its 8g's! i'm poooooooooooor! OMG am i poor would you like to donate an sr20 to the "poor college students who wants SR20DET" fund?!!

If u want a &nbsp;Turbo Allwheel drive DSM. i have 2 one words for u Crank Walk. &nbsp;thats mosty for 2nd gen DSM's. &nbsp;DSM's arn't known for relability.
u can spend 8 g's on a Decent to high milage DSM.
or
Spend 2500 on front clip
1000 in labor
then like 500-800 in extras
and u gots a low milage engine tranny lots of stuff.
