like a few times a week, i turn my car on, put it in reverse and it starts shaking alot, kind of like misfiring badly
then when i drive it wont shift up, i was hitting 55mph at 5-6k rpm
so i got off the freeway, parked near a house, turned car off, turned back on and it went back to normal
what the fuck? help please, i need to make sure this works before i go back to school!

ok, i added auto tranny fluid, and it seemed to work fine for a day, but its still doing it
what else could it be? cuz it usually works fine after just turning the car off and then back on

how much fluid? could be on it's way out. I trust you used Nissanmatic fluid.

i added just a quart, and it seemed to be the right amount after checking the dipstick in the way it says in the manual
i'd also like to mention that the other day, i put my car in reverse to back out of my driveway, and my engine started shaking real badly and died....then i put the car back in park, turned on the car and it worked fine (this happened days before i put the fluid in)

It could be a number of things. Is the fluid still pinkish/redish on the dipstick? If the fluid is still in good condition and at the right level, it could be a number of things. If the engine is running fine you can do a SHITLOAD of test to find out your problem. Best bet is to find a FSM and start diagnosing or to take it to a good transmission shop. They can do some stall testing and some line pressure checks to see where the problem is. It may even just be some adjustments need to be done. Good luck.
