I want to get a set of forged pistons. Should I get JE, or Ross or is there another good brand out there that I should consider? Thanks

So from what someone told me on the forum, you can lower the compression without boring out the block. Could I get the comp ratio down to 8.5 without boring it out? How would that work?
What about rods? who makes good ones?

I hear a lot of guys use crower rods.
Anyway, I believe they lower compression by changing the dome depth on the piston. You can also do this with different rods. (I think)

You can also just use a thicker head gasket too.

But thicker head gaskets blow easyer
To lower the comp you use a piston with a reverse dome piston. You can buy pistons in just about any comp you want.
Crower rods are nice. But im partial to Eagle. They have proven themselves to me. Pluss they are a little less expensive for most applications.

<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'> It is my firm belief that a thicker head gasket (made out of, well for the KA: avail in copper, or another metal) will allow you to reliably sustain boost with more tolerance to wearing and breakage. stronger seal.
Pistons: JE, Ross, Arias, Wiseco
Rods: Crower, Carillo, Eagle
Nobody stocks anything for the KA, so they'll be custom-made to whatever specs you want, and they'll take a long time (2 or 3 months?). You might be able to find a retailer that has ordered a bunch for their sales stock, but then you can only buy the specs that they have (obviously).

From what ive read from the book "Maximum Boost" By Corky Bell...heres a direct quote about head Gaskets:
"The thought of trying to improve a head gasket should not imply that the head gasket is the weak link. A new stock head gasket, mated to flat surfaces and accompanied by properly torqued head studs, is a good joint. Head gaskets in general do not tend to "blow." Rather, one could say that detonation will blow anything, and the head gasket is often the first thing standing in line. Almost always, the most effective cure for a blown head gasket is control of detonation.
Clearly, however, maximum-effort engines must be equipped with maximum-effort head gaskets. Several methods exist for substantially improving a stock head gasket. The fundamental idea is to offer some form of motion barrier that will help the gasket stay put if it is subjected to a few detonation blasts. This barrier usually takes the form of an interlock or mechanical barrier..."
He procedes to describe head gasket o-rings as a good alternative.

thats why u should get the block o-ringed
thats what i have done and is almost guarranteed that i will never blow a head gasket
