So, while I was out driving last night, I passed a gas station and see out of the corner of my eye a black S13 coupe with OEM spoiler. "Looks a lot like my old one", I think, as I turn around.

Sure enough, there she was. The owner works at that gas station now, apparently. Times have not been good for her though. Oh god, it hurt.

The front bumper is all f'd up. It's mostly in the right shape, but appears pushed down an inch or so creating a gap between it and the hood that exposes a view of the engine. Very nasty.

The reat left quarter panel has also seen much better days. Apparently, it was hit in a parking lot. What's unfortunate though is that it was hit hard enough to ripple the trunk. Sure, most people wouldn't notice, I suppose, if it were white, maybe. But, with that black paint, when the light hits it, and I'm looking at it, the deck lid looks like a wading pool it's so rippled.

It's missing about half the speakers I put in it. He said he didn't like them. Whatever. Now he says it's too quiet. I'm willing to admit I economized my way through that entire installation, but just because I didn't buy the best, doesn't mean I bought the worst either. No, far from it. Man, that system wailed. Every one of my friends loved it, most of them miss it, and the kid was in love with it when he heard it first.

And, to top it all off, the thing was hideously dirty. I mean, we're talking -caked- in more dirt than I would have -ever- allowed near it. I'll give him credit for having very recently done a quite admirable job polishing up the rims, but the body .. well .. that dented up, I don't even know if washing it would even be worth the time anyway.

Sigh. Anyway, it was depressing. So I thought I would share.

On a brighter note, I'm pretty much over missing her though. After all, she's from my automatic transmission days, before I knew better. Heh. =)

Although, in the kid's defense, I will say he clearly loves the car. I think it has single-handedly brought him an appreciate of fine import engineering and for the beauty of rear-wheel drive (as long as it isn't raining).

He also swapped out the front yellow marker lights with blue ones and added matching fog lights. Though usually a fan of yellow lights, I will admit those look nice.

And, I'm sure he would wash the car if we weren't in a drought right now, so I suppose I can't really hold that against him.

Then there's the whole cost of body work thing. I mean, if he can't afford to fis the body, he can't afford to fix the body. It's just that simple. It isn't that he doesn't WANT to.

So, I suppose he's treating her as well as he could. And, I'll add that I thought it was quite funny how he tried leaning on the worst dent so I wouldn't notice it.

But, still, I figured you guys could relate. It just hurts to see, ya know? I mean, seriously, that car was PERFECT this time last year.

Oh well, what'a'ya gonna do? Not my car anymore. I'm alright with that. I am. Really.

Shuttup! I am!

Sorry to hear the fate of a 240 (albeit an auto one )!
I saw my old car a few weeks ago. 1988 Merc Tracer, the ones that looked like the Mazda 323. The paint is orange now (faded from red), and the wheels have 3 spoke wheel covers with fake discs!! WTF! No other dents or dings, but it just reminded me of where i used to go in that thing. 184k so says the ODO now. Still going stong i guess, if you can get it started. Electrical gremlins I guess. Hey its old!
Jeff thanks for sharing..."you touch a brotha's heart"

I know the pain of a neglected 240.

It was my sisters car in the first place and she gave it to me in 95 and it was a 91 I loved that car sooooo much but then she moved to New York and need the car back so I shipped it to her and last year I found out she wanted to sell it and I bought it off her

NY did bad things to this car...almost like it sent to prison and was roomed with Bubba. Dents everywhere neglected paint busted turn signals. It was just sad But now I am treating her like the true beast she is and she is coming around
