Change your plugs and run some Redline fuel system cleaner

i dunno. just got the car i dunno wtf previous owner did but it drives fine. Just small idle problem, backfire etc. So right now I am gonna clean up the fuel system with some system cleaner. Actually still have a bottle chevon cleaner that I didn't use from last time. Then gonna change the plugs clean the throttle body. And check timing. If not then I was told might be a vacum leak

it doesn't sound like a bad injector problem... I was running on 3 cylinders for a while... that was horrible.
cap, rotor, plug wires should be upgraded/updated as well while you are doing some maintenance jobs...

new caps and rotors already. so you saying it has 3 cylinders? Maybe I will get a compression and leak down test done to it.

gonna try to reset the ECU and see what's up. Weird how this car passed smog.

my car had the same symptoms and it turned out to be leaky injectors and injector seals. you might want to check to see if those are leaking.

I doubt the problem you are describing is related to failed injector (running on 3 cylinders). When mine was running on 3 cylinder, it was BAD... I mean below 3500 rpm the car ran like crap pooh.

At idle, pull off a single spark plug wire at a time, if your idle gets worse, that that wire is good, if it doesn't change, then you have a bad wire. I have had 3 OEM wires go bad on my 2 KA24Es, and this is a simple 10 second test.

hey, what do you guys mean by the cap? Are you talking about the distributor cap? or what?

Thats what I did. My number 3 isnt firing or the injector isnt working. Compression test came back fine.

are you having this problem on a s14? 'coz i'm experiencing this same problem too and so is a buddy of mine.. but my exhaust doesn't backfire, it sputters.. but then again, i do have 3 inch piping.. but anyways.. try cleaning out your TPS! i've yet to try it, but i'll let you know how it goes when i clean mine.. or if you get a chance to before i do, let me know how it works out on yours! could be timing too.. if you have a larger exhaust, it does tend to retard your timing.. from what i'm told!

my single cam was doing that when i bought it. Found leaky vacum lines, check your timing. And reset your ecu, and adjust your idle by the intake manifold. Idles like a beast now

I know this sounds strange, but on my car I had the same problems when I had a bad exhaust leak by the downpipe, does the car hesitate a little at WOT?, because mine did, and it also ran a lot better right when it hit a certain point in the RPM range, do u experience any of this?

it sounds like timing or like hardstyledrift says could be a exhaust leak, o2 could be getting wrong reading or something.

i had those problems with bad timing but it could be a slew of stuff. i had a lotta backfiring on shift and downshift with bad timing, and my idle was shit.
