View Full Version : how do I improve handling?

I asked you guys about sway bar because for the past few weeks, I have been concentrating on reducing roll by adjousting the height of the megan coilovers. Even with 8/6 spring rates, car's roll is noticable, particularly when I lowered the car too much. So I brought it back.
Now with roll center closer to cg, the roll is much reduced however, handling lost the sharp feeling that lowered car had.
What are the ways to sharpen the handling besides tweaking the suspension geometry by adjousting the height of the coilover?
Among tie rod end, tension rod, swaybar and etc, which mod should I get and put on?

have you been going to events and actually driving your car? driver skill cures quite a bit

bushings and subframe spacers...lower profile tires...tweak with the tire pressure...roll cage...brace this, bar that...ya'kno, look around...

my car has zero roll and all i have are coilovers and bushings. the only roll i experience is with my tires. then i guess the next weakest thing will cause roll... there is no quick easy cure, dude.
What width, profile, diameter and model tire are you running and what's the specs of your wheels. My car had body roll until i put some 215's on a 9 inch wide wheel. then it wouldnt budge if i tried to roll it or make the suspension travel by pushing on the car.

I have hankook h405 215/45/17.
I, too, have minimal roll now with slight oversteer. But the sharp handling was a trade off.
So I am looking for the ways to make handling sharper.

on what size rim, man...it matters
What are your alignment settings? Try upgrading your rear sway bar first. It will make your car change directions faster. Also you can try removing the front sway. It wont be as bad as you think as far as sway is concerned. Try it out..cause it's free and it will make your steering insane. I loved it on my s13.

17 inch rim, 32 offset... what else should I name?
those are both irrelevant. how WIDE is the rim?

I will try removing the front sway bar first.
front tire : camber2.4 toe in 0.3 stock caster since I have stock tension rod
rear tire: camber at 2.

removing the front swaybar is a shitty idea. if you want less body roll, dump the car and get heavier springs, or get some sus tech swaybars, cheapest way to do it.

[QUOTE=xagna]I have hankook h405 215/45/17.
Hankook tires are part of the problem.

The five year old design is why I loose grips pretty easily, I think.
But could it be the reason, too, for loosing the sharp edge from handling?

Tires/ alignment are probably the most important factor. Cash out and get some Kumho MX's or better yet Michelin Pilot Sports.

It's a great idea because
1-i've personally tried it and it was great
2- it's free
3-if he doesnt like it, it'll take 10 minutes to put back on

I agree with Var, no front sway = less understeer, more phun. :fawkd:

so you want to tweak it so theres no roll?
get sways and put higher spring rates.
does your initial turn in suck? a touch of toe out in the front will make the turn in's more crisp.

you worry me sometime with the questions you ask. but anyways, check the motorsports FAQ section. Better yet look up "blade swaybars" . Your turn-in could suck from not uprating the steering rack bushings, tie rods, tension rods, FLCA bushings, fender bracing, not wide enough wheels to fit wide enough to tires to compenstate for being lowered. If you are looking for immediate turn-in like on race cars or on Solo2 cars. Say bye bye to driveability, thas all spherical bearings, endlinks, etc... you may want to ride in other cars to get a feel of turn-in response, and what those owners did to get to that point.

I thought toe in makes faster response, but toe out makes more traction

I got rid of the roll and the trade off was the loss of sharpness in steering response.

Why spherical bearings are no good for street driving?

I read up a little bit. And it seems i was mistaken. Thanks for the prompt notification.
