When will the first RWD QR25DE swap take place into a 240sx?
Who will be the first to put a truck engine (albiet origination occurred in sentra/altima) into their 240sx?

I guess it puts out 154hp and 173lb-ft of TQ (flywheel) in stock form.
I can't wait for someone to hit up a junkyard for one of these to do an all-new engine swap. For CA, you could probably make it smog-legal too.

Which car has a rwdQR25DE?

This should be a great swap, maintaing the torquey characteristics of the KA, but with (i think) all new aluminum, lighter parts. Plus, in the Spec V it has something like 175-180 HP, a six-speed, and an HLSD. I don't know if the RWD version will be able to come with or utlize similar hardware.

SCC reported the QR responded well to even bolt-ons, and their Real Time Racing Sentra kicked some ass in SCCA racing (again...i think)

In CA, isn't there an issue with swapping a motor that wasn't originally offered in a certain model?

haha, yeah I know, I was just stating the fact in the form of a question. I realize no 240 owner cares anyway, I ditched my KA too.

mrmephistopheles - Are you dreaming this up? I can't think of any Nissan in the states that would have this motor, excluding the Frontier (but I know little about that truck).

Frontier is what I'm referring to (hence the truck motor comment). It cames available with a 5 speed manual. Hell, i'm curious as to whether or not the 6speed manual from the 6cylinder model can bolt to the QR or KA.

impactred - doesn't matter what manufacturer the engine is from, as long as it's same year or newer than the chassis and retains the smog equipment from its production year.

allright you asshole, now you have me wanting to get rid of my car and bring this project on. GREAT! ANOTHER BAD CAR IDEA. open deck so light and torquey. If it puts this much hp out stock, how much will it when I throw say a gt28r on it with cams/head work? Instant boost with LOTS of torque and a redline of about 6500. Or even a gt2871r.63 t3, it would spool much faster than in a SR because of the added displacement and allow it to kick ass in the top end where those engines lack. This engine sounds like being able to build a light weight ka with MORE torque basically

heard the QR is severely limited in revs- not that it's something KA owners complain about...but as a replacement in the sentra, 7000 rpm capability woulda been fun


who's got money and a shop to test stuff out and fab if necessary?

True, but your missing one BIG ASS ISSUE. You can put a car engine in a car, you can put a car engine in a truck, but you CANNOT put a truck engine in a car according to CA laws. So no one in cali will be doing it for legal reasons. Besides, that smog law shit sucks. Even if the engine fits, if you modify ANY exhaust piping before the cat, it is NOT legal. You also cannot move the cat from the factory placement on the cars chassis. And if you make ur own intake, illegal swap.

Plus that engine is really underbuilt anyways. The rods are the size of toothpicks, and a ka can handle boost far better than that hulking piece of crap. It simply isn't worth the time and money. Even a low pressure turbo kit would see that thing grenade. If you wanna swap it, you better be happy with bolt ons.

KA > QR any day of the week. QR has weaker rods, weaker pistons, weaker/smaller bearings, etc. No point....

Uh, then why not just build a KA? Only benefit of a QR is the weight, and you're gonna be paying a very hefty premium. I mean people will practically pay you to get rid of their old KA long blocks, what does a brand new QR engine+tranny go for?

If people wanna do it to try something different then I'm not gonna knock it since the QR is actually a decent engine once you address a couple problems, but the price/performance ratio is way in favor of the KA and even the SR.

^ totally agree. It's like the notion of putting a built 5.0 motor into a 240. You don't need to look in junkyards for a motor, cause you'll have to replace the entire engine with aftermarket parts anyway. With the 5.0 its the block, crank, rods, pistons. With the QR , you'll need sleeves, a kit to eliminate the balancers,rods, pistons, headgasket. Maybe you can salvage some bolts that you got with the junkyard engine, otherwise there is no point. Go get a ka, put some low comp pistons in and a decent head gasket and save yourself the trouble.

I thought you could put a truck engine into a car, depending on the weight /class of the truck. Doesnt that only imply to trucks that are not commercial c license? maybe im confused but i thought thats how it was written

You mean quote all those incorrect statements you made? LOL forget it, you go try and find me a dyno where a QR is killing a KA in the torque department cuz all the dynos I've seen of turbo QR's, it ain't happening.
