Water mark on the windows.

hey guys,
well i got my coupe a few months ago, and the windows have rain marks, or water marks on it that will not go away ( i guess its been sitting there for a while). Doesn't matter how hard i wash, wax or do anything to it, it still will not go away. I wonder does anybody else have the same problem?? and what u did to remove it?? help a fella out will ya?? C

well my car had some bad water marks too.. but they came off with windex + a lot of scrubbing

it is oxidation from the water, try going to a detailers shop and having them fix it, or buy what they use, I got the ones out of my sisters windows by using polishing compund...but there were still a few marks left.

Water spots on glass are sometimes just impossible to remove without shaving the damn window that why whenever I wash my car im sure to wax all my glass and mirrors.

They make a very soft steel wool that you can buy from any hardware store. I have the same thing on my windshield, this is what my friend told me to use. He works for a professional repair shop

STOP! go check out www.autopia.org That forum is nothing but gurus on car paints and etc.
usually they are deposits left by hard water that stain after time. They take some elbow grease and some vineger. You can try the 000 steel wool, but you want to try the least aggressive, and if that doesn't take it out, then go with something a little more aggressive. You shouldn't need to take it to a professional. Why pay someone else what you can do yourself.

mmmmm never seen that problem but i say try newspaper w/ vinegar/water combo first...

then bust out a razor blade and scrape it while soapy water is on the window to lube it a little

I make my own window cleaner at home, use equal parts DISTILLED water (it is 0.69/gallon, use it), isopropyl rubbing alcohol and vinegar, NEVER streaks and comes cleaner than anything I have paid 3-5 times more (including a spray bottle at the hardware store) in any store for a glass cleaner.

... oh, and it got those spots you speak of outta my sunroof

Plain water never streeks neither, l perfer the left over shammy wetness to clean my windows, better than any windex shit out there. Its not like windows are pourous just sometimes I guess if you had someone with a greasy head or kids with dirty hands then other stuff is needed.

Hell I dont think I ever seen a 240 with anyone riding in the back....lol it just wouldn;t look right.

this is the best answer i have to say.... i worked detailing cars as shop bitch for a year.... #0000 steel wool aka 4 odd.... is what can be used on the outside dont even think about it in the inside if u got tint.... usually 4 odd and a little glass cleaner will do the trick...

For a last resort you can use regular paint buffer and a mild sealer/glaze.

I also agree with the 0000 steel wool technique. It takes almost anything if not everything off windows w/o scratching. Good luck!

000 Steel wool didn't remove mine, nor did vinegar any kind of polish (I went from fine to abrasive). I used a Porter Cable orbital buffer with my roughest pad, still didn't come out. I guess I could try using a strong rotary tool with lambskin on it, but I don't have the $ for that right now.

But after all of the above, most of it was definately removed (and/or polished down) so it can only be seen in good lighting or rain.

this happened to my car last summer when my old neighbor was watering his lawn one weekend, mid-day in 100degree weather, water droplets took maybe 5mins to evaporate and leave nasty mineral deposits all over the whole driver's side of my car. I thought hte finish was ruined after a wash and 3stage wax... I claybared the whole car the next day and the difference was night and day. I need to do it again now, I have the sunroof spots like phlip was talkin about

You're supposed to wax the paint after you clay bar the car. It takes off wax as well as the impurities in the paint.

..... i used the clay bar once and never again.... its too slow... u can easily wash the car real quick, polish it and then wax it... done... and looks 10x better...

The clay bar makes doing the polish easier and pulls the contaminants out instead of leaving them there and just covering them.

they do, technically they use it for gettin overspray off... but i never do.. one whip of the polisher its off... no need to get a bucket of water and tons of effort electric buffer owns...

oh, I wasn't sayin that I was doing the order backwards on purpose, I'd just hoped taht wash + cleaner wax + carnuba = water spots gone, but not til the clay bar was done did they go away, i did another carnuba coat after the clay bar.
