i installed my cone filter w/ AFM adapter today.
my air temp sensor is hanging loose like some people told me to do and said it would be fine.
i didn't have the chance to get a breather so there isn't a filter on that part.
also the engine just dies shortly after it starts like 30 secs.
could it possibly be a vaccum leak? i dont think the AFM adpater is air tightly sealed with the AFM.

try the MAS or MAF or AFC i don't know what it's called, it's connected to your intake majiggy

does the engine die as soon as u press the gas pedal? if so it is most likely a vacuum leak. check the code of error from your ecu.

i put everything back to stock and it still had the same problem...
then i turned the air temp sensor upside down. and then it still turned on , then it turnedoff..
but now i have the stock airbox back on.. im thinking of just leaving it till i can get all the answers on how to put the cone on a 89 SOHC w/o having any wires dangling around.

you might want to check you ECU for codes. there is a code for your air temp sensor so that could 'possibly' be the problem. also, i've heard the air temp sensor slightly retards or advances your timing depending on the temp and if it's not hooked up right, maybe it's confusing your ECU. just some thoughts though, i dunno.

but after i placed everything back .. it still has the check engine light on, and i dont know how to read the ECU codes. i have exposed the the ecu and i do see the little led but its not flashing , do i have to do something to it to make it rear the code.?

The check engine light will stay on for a while (300 starts?) after the problem is fixed unless you clear the code.
It dosent matter if you AIV has a openening or not. Its just putting out used air.
Try resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 30 min.

i tried resetting it, but i didnt wait for 30 mins... i thought a few seconds was all you needed? but i will try the 30 mins..

ok my engine light went off..
now when i cold start the car the idle drops reallly low, and it then dies out.
if i tap the gas to prevent this its ok till it warms up..
then around 55MPH the car starts shaking and then around 60 it smooths out... why does this happen?
