1989 KA24E 140k... I was driving today and stoped at a light my car was running at 1700-2000RPM I was like WTF... when I got back my coolant was boiling in the reservoir.. like bubbles noise.. etc... I could also hear the sound in the engine block.. this is new it's never done it before.. I just replaced the coolant sensor about 100 miles ago umm.. the only other thing new is I put in 89 octane gas last fillup when it's used to 93.. I did it because it's painful to pay $3 a gallon!! I think there is a mixture of watter and antifreeze not 100% of each... (I usually run just water because it's florida but when I had my timing chain done they put in antifreeze) it has a brand new metal radiator that was put in about 1500 miles ago.. What's up with this? any ideas?

when i flushed my radiator.. it was smoking steam a llittle from the hoses.. but im asuming it was water evaporating.. Why didnt you use 50/50 solution..?

I found that it works better than rather adding 1/2 antifreeze.. and half water mxiture yourself..

antifreeze has anticorrosion additives, so it is good to run. Pure water cools better. I run water in the summer and coolant fall to spring.

If your rad cap is old, I would guess that it is bad.

no it's not the rad cap... it was the reservoir it looked like a pot of boiling water... plus it sounded like the water INSIDE the block was also boiling... The Car running at such a high RPM while at the light makes me think it was the coolant sensor trying to correct with something in the ECU... I don't know it is just strange never happend before so it worries me...

try flushing it again? sounds like you have a HELLUVA lot of air in ur cooling system. are you losing coolant? or is it jsut boiling over, which would mean you have a lot of air in there. or just try to bleed it off, with the bleeder screw on the intake manifold, on top of the hard pipe for hte coolant (10mm). turn the car on, run it, open take the screw off, fill radiator till coolant starts to come out, make sure no air bubbles are coming out, fill as necessary. Also, fill the resivour(sp?) to max level. hope that helps maybe :x:

the rad cap opens at a specific pressure. increasing the pressure increases the boiling point. if the cap is broken it may open early, allowing the coolant inside the block to boil and releasing steam through the reservoir.

read my sig, I wouldn't post a possable cause if it were not possable.

it's just boiling over... I will try what you guys said thanks! it's a brand new radiator but i'll still check the cap anyway.
