EVO? or STi?

Gonna buy one or the other in the next month or so. Still love my 240, but need an AWD for snow. So why or why not STi/EVO...

best thing to do is go test drive both a few times and see which you like better... and why limit it to just those two? there are a lot of cool cars coming out...

i say buy a 4X4 for snow. jack that bitch up and call it a day. like a tacoma prerunner 4X4. thats if u actually want something for snow. not for speed.

I would not buy a nice car for snow because getting it ruined is not fun. In this case I would get a Mazda 323 GTX or an AWD Eclipse. But I like EVO's more than STI's which is what you really asked. I think Forrester XT's are pretty kick ass though and I like plain WRX's too. Why drop a bunch of money on a nice car to put it through terrible weather and partially ruin it?

well, the snow area I'm living in is not east coast snow. It's mountain area snow, and most of it will be highway snow driving. Talked to a bunch of people who live there, and they all recommend an awd (subby) over a 4x4 truck. Plus, the roads don't get salted up, more sand, and there's not much moisture in the high elevations.

Just wondering what everyone thinks.

STI > EVO

just my own personal opinion based on absolutely no concrete fact.

You can use my plans for my 4th 240 (whenever I can afford to finish the other 3). Take a S13 Fastback shell, slap it on a Jeep Wrangler, or S-10 pick-up frame, then drop in a V8, lift kit, and some nice big tires. All the love of the 240, with the wholesome redneck goodness of a mud/snow/beach truck. :D

If you are moving to Reno, I would get a Subaru. There seems to be more support in that area for Sube's as well as a lot of people who mod them. Cant go wrong really.

My vote goes for the evo. I know about 4 evo owners the only problems they have had is the synchros going out.

I was going through the same thing the past few weeks. I test drove both this weekend. Mitsubishi is running a 0% financing deal for 60 months on well qualified buyers plus their 10 year/100,000 mile warranty which can really help you out.

The STI is definitely better build quality, a lot more refined. But it doesn't feel quite as fun to drive as the Evo. It has power and it is comfortable but basically feels like a WRX with a more powerful motor. The Evo is very good, handling is a lot better and overall the car feels faster and corners a lot better. The interior is kinda lacking though.

Depends what is important for you. If comfort and interior quality > performance, then STI is your deal.

As for me, I wanted something with more an edge and I actually sat down and was ready to buy an Evo from the dealer. He qualified me for the 0% interest and I was ready to buy but he was not willing to budge from 800 over invoice. I wanted straight invoice on it because the Evo 9 is coming out in a few months and I know they want to clear out the Evo 8s. So I walked out the door on him.

Thing is, you better decide soon, Mitsubishi's 0% is this month only and the 05 STIs are disappearing from dealers and 06s are already at the dealers. (the 06 is ugly) And the Evo 9 will not have any kind of special pricing and most likely will be marked up above sticker.

So in a couple of months it will be either this:

yeah that kinda stuff is fun...my buddy put a 93 grand am body on a toyota pickup frame/drivetrain, probably the only grand am with 4wd, 31's, and 12 inches of ground clearance. and big, naked lady mudflaps. They make it better. :wiggle:

EVO for me cause i talked to a bunch of pro's at the racetrack. They said the EVO feels a lot better coming out of turns. The STI is too tight and never loosens up enough to get good corner exits. Basically too much plowing. i've also driven both and like the EVo better.

st185 celica all-trac...those things have tons of potential if you ever decide to mod...good luck finding one though

wow that 06 STi looks fucking gay. Evos are cheaper than STi's as well, so you got that going for ya. I know equal amounts of people with both cars and all opinions of build quality and performance are basically what they've said.

I bought my Evo over the STi because of the handling and the individual componants that go into the car. (esp the Recaros). I've heard a lot of people complain about Mitsubishi build quality, but my experiances have been good. I would like to get an Evo IX front bumper though, ...sexy.

All I ever see are rich kids that do nothing more than one of the following... add a BOV, slam it, or throw on an exhaust and act like they are tuning gods because they can ride in their mommy and daddy bought STi and look down at the other kids that just own a normal trendy WRX.

Only slight exterior changes, most notably the front bumper but Evo 9 > Evo 8

i wouldnt own a mitsu personally, i prefer cars that werent made like crap. Suby is better however theres alot of ricer fanboy followings of both those cars. get a beater. did you know that the evo has had recalls for frame rot already? how long have the cars been out again? and you wanna drive that in the winter??? old cressida, old beat sohc 240, miata, something rwd or something awd. personally i prefer rwd over fwd in the winter, i like the control. awd will obviously be better in the winter though.

Impreza 2.5RS, older bodystyle.

You save money and you don't have to switch your tires as soon as you get the car.
