how bad is the car theft problem in La Jolla near or around the UCSD area

i know san diego is a large area (like LA) but it seems like every thread stickied lately advertising a carjack is in sd

Are you a UCSD student? If so, just pick up the school newspaper every Monday. On page 2, it has a listing of all police reports on and near campus for the past week. Plenty of burglary and theft.

La Jolla is considered a nice area, but don't be fooled and don't let your guard down. If it's got a freeway nearby, theft chances are higher, and I-5 runs right through the UCSD La Jolla area and stretches straight down to Tijuana. Burglary seems to be a lot more common though, as I know plenty of people who are victims of it, including myself. I see shattered glass in the gutters on Regents Road. The underground parking structure at Costa Verde Apartments is plagued with burglary.

The list goes on and on. I am paranoid where I park now, and I drive a car with ZERO aftermarket aesthetics (stock wheels, stock interior, stock stereo, stock exterior, etc). No parking in unlit places, quiet isolated places, places far from peoples homes and windows. Cover up the stereo, make the inside look as plain and unattractive as possible, no exposed bags, electronics, or anything thats worth anything you can eBay. And remember, any car could be a target, no matter what it looks like: new, old, clean, dirty, stock, modded.

if he didnt take the parts off the car after i sold it to him it would have

a B pillar bar, Advan Model 5 lookalikes, tokiko blue shocks, eibach sportlines, of course the amber corners, a striaght pipe as an exhaust, and thats about it.

look in the chula vista area. well actually the whole south side san diego. alot of cars come up over there so yeah.

Man, this shit really hits close to home. I used to see that car parked on my street all the time. I would drive past it when coming back from work. This truly licks balls, do you know where it was stolen?

Omarius Maximus
08-29-2005, 05:25 PM
Now I'm afraid to mention what kind of 240 I drive, where I drive it, and everything.... I'm so freakin paranoid now.....

if i remember right, i was told it was stolen from the his driveway

Omarius Maximus

I'm pretty sure the guy lives in PQ, cause thats where I would see his car most. But I used to see it in Mira Mesa all the time as well. If he lives in Mira Mesa, then its no surprise, but PQ is a relatively good neighborhood. Maybe the car attracted too much attention from the wrong people? Usually the people who jack you are the people you actually know, perhaps a shady acquantance?

Omarius Maximus

Anyways, if I see that car, you better bet your ass there will be a high speed pursuit. There are a ton of 240 guys in PQ, so they'll probably be informed through here.

lol, although the situation sucks, i live here in San Diego also and it's a very safe place in most areas. I'm not sure where the car got stolen from, but if it was from the guy's driveway then damn, that's not the best place to be living.

Mostly teenagers with S14s who attempt to flaunt what they've got around trendy spots in heavily asian areas get jacked. May seem like a stereotype but it's true.

Most cars should be fine, use common sense when u visit for those of u out of towners. I'll keep my eyes open for that car in the meantime.

Good luck.

At the very MINIMUM you need to have a quick release setup. I don't care if you have to pick up one of those made in China steering wheels for the quick release
for $20. If you have enough money into your ride, you need to do something. I just got a new truck to tow my car with, and i got LOJACK in it. Its like $500 for the life of the car. You cant beat that.
