View Full Version : Kouki lip replicas-gauging interest
240m3srt

I am having a shop that builds Shelby Cobras and GT-40 kit cars build fiberglass s14 Kouki front spoiler replicas. The original unit is $300-$400 but damn does it look good! Now you can have one at considerably less, though price has not yet been determined. The benefits of fiberglass are its light, strong, and most of all easily repairable. We all know this part is gonna get scraped on bumps, and the factory abs plastic is very hard to repair.
Just wondering how much interest there is. Thanks.

If they can make it so that it bolts up to the stock Silvia Q and K's for S13 front bumper, the stock Zenki bumper, AND the stock Chuki bumper, I'm sure people will buy it from you.
Im in for one can they do side skirts too

LOL, i was wondering what you were getting at. He can make s13 versions no problem. Im told the accuracy compared to the stock Nissan part should be around 98% dead on. Again, these guys build the bodies on $50,000 kit cars. Keep in mind i bought the original OE piece brand new from Nissan just to build an accurate mold.
chuy, yes sideskirts can be done as well.
The way i see it these parts are getting more and more rare as time goes on, whos to say when all the current ones will be torn to shreds or no longer available from Nissan.
Furthermore, depending on how this goes i can make the coveted JDM bumpers and lips, we all know what those are worth and how hard it is to get, no to mention how long it takes.

Unless it's a foot thick it's not going to last very long. You can't beat the durability of OE urethane and they aren't near as expensive as people suggest. You'd have to price these replicas at less than $100 so the people who break them don't feel raped wen they start buying one a week.
And to the suggestion to make replica JDM bumpers, many people already do, and they have the same problems being fiberglass and not fitting well or holding up at all.

you'll have plenty of buyers, i was in the market for a usdm lip for the longest time but then i decided to go JDM.
Make a custom JDM lip that is similair to the OEM lip but hangs lower. I'd buy if it were under or around $100 since its fiberglass aka fragile.

:stupid: It's not even worth painting the OEM one cause it wears down on ramps and shit.

08-21-2005, 03:19 AM
just go with JDM s14 kouki front bumper and top it off with greddy front lip. OE one does nothing for asthetics like maybe an inch difference if that much, greddy I know drops the front even more. check with revat619 i know he picked one up.
d4vech3n
08-21-2005, 03:32 AM
jspec has the greddys in stock $240 + ship, in my case it was $340 so it wasn't worth it for me since the greddy aero doesn't match the oem skirts.

Looks like this is gonna be a go. The mold will start next friday and should take about a week for completion. Its kinda hard to make them drop GT-40 bodies for a lip. :faint:
The lips will come with no holes drilled for the screws, you must have them drilled. Better fitment can be obtained per individual car this way. However, you will be able to see an outline of the factory holes if your that confident in their placement.

A concern of mine is that i need to ship these in a box 69x22x5 large. This is an odd size. At the UPS store they had a box that would work if i bought two and taped them together, but they wanted $10 each so thats $20 in boxes, not to mention shipping isnt going to be cheap either.
I will see if theres any where online to get these things for a better price, any help is appreciated.

Hi, just to let you know a little about me i live in DFW, TX. I used to work at a local import shop selling and installing performance parts(motors, trannys, turbo kit, nitrous, etc). Some of you may know me from Enkei Intl where i sold wheels from the factory. You can check my positive ebay feedback under 1bdsrt. You can also check my seller feedback at www.srtforums.com or on www.ls1tech.com. I have no business of any sort currently, im just doing this on the side of my day job. Depending on how this goes in the future i may actually start offering more specialty parts under an actual business name. Through my past i have strong connections in great TIG welding, custom fabbing, turbo kits, etc.
The lip is going to run about $160.00. If you are local and wish to pick up with out a box this is all you will pay. I researched a little more today on shipping boxes and costs. It will require an oversized box measuring 69x22x5. For example, UPS Ground shipping and boxed to Cali is around $60-$70.00. If you are closer it might be a little cheaper but keep in mind how large the box is. I know, it sucks...but unless i can arrange something better, which hopefully down the road i can, im just gonna be honest up front.
As i stated before, the quality should be very good. About 98% accurate compared to the OE unit. The two percent is because of the fact no matter how close it is, someone will complain that the holes dont match up even though they drilled them, or that it doesnt fit right on their 10 year old dented, warped bumper. If you can think of the excuse i have heard it and thats why i must say the part will have NO WARRANTY!!!
LMK if this is still sounds reasonable to you guys. If it doesnt thats ok, im still gonna make them. Id just like some "pre-feedback" ahead of time.

They will be gelcoated black. I will be putting mine on just as is and be done with it, but you may paint yours if you choose. The gelcoat is what is directly between the fiberglass and the mold, to give it that finished smooth look rather than seeing a bunch of fibers. It should be pretty durable from what the guy told me. He said if it gets hit by rocks it could chip or "spider web" but hell paint does that too. He said it will not start peeling off or just flaking off. That was enough for me.

I took the lip in yesterday to have it jigged and im going back today to have it test fitted to the car to ensure proper fitment before the mold is started. The mold will be done by next Friday, and on that monday i should heve the first piece made and pics up. At that point in time i will be making an undetermined quantity for stock and the others can be made as the orders are taken.
EACH PIECE TAKES ONE DAY TO MAKE! To ensure each lip is properly cured and not pulled prematurely, each piece will be left in the mold for 24 hrs, unless deemed unnecessary as we progress.
I understand no one wants to purchase anything before seeing pics, and i dont blame them. When i get pics up 10 days from now on Monday, i will at that point be taking orders, it will be first some first serve PRE-PAY!! Meaning even though it takes one day for production, if 7 people have already paid, then yours wont be made until day 8.
If sales are phenominal, i will make another mold.

Glad you guys saw my ebay add. I relist it as soon as it ends each week. AS far as knowing an ETA on other parts, i still gotta sell more lips before i hit the break-even point...in oher words im still in the negative, and thats no bueno. My production cost are about twice as high as most companies because my parts are built in USA, not China. If you personally know anyone who has purchased a lip ask them about fitment and quality, thats why their made in the USA. :wiggle:
My other ideas include the JDM rear valences as you guys have suggested, possibly JDM front bumper and lip, and the rear pieces that attach behind the rear wheels(ive gone blank on what thier called). The great thing its only gonna get harder to find these as time goes on. But youll always be able to get the replicas brand new from me.
Tell your friends, uncles, brothers, etc to buy a Kouki lip replica....and ye' shall recieve more badass parts! :coold:
