RSR is not that quiet...I have it. My buddy has the Greddy Evo and it's only a tad quieter at idle. The only thing that I like about it is the muffler and tip look kinda factory.

ex mag isnt that quiet either.. important key is not to be a dumbfuk w/ any type of exhaust.

queit at idle/cruising, at WOT its pretty loud, but sounds great. The best part about is the look, it almost looks like a stock exhaust, esp since its jet coated black except for the tip, most cops wont even look at it.
I have the RS*R ExMag on my NA KA (hah!).. it's not really that quiet, but if you keep it below 2500rpm it can be quiet, especially if you have some music playing, hehe..
Also, like some people said, it kinda looks like a stock muffler, which is great really..
IMO, that exhaust is perfect on an SR.. if you are planning to get one soon, that exhaust will kick ass since you probably won't even hear it while driving. It's a high quality exhaust, no doubt about that, but it's also meant for an SR car..

I have an ExMag on my NA S14 with a 3" cat and it's definitely tolerable IMO. Though I haven't heard an ExMag on a turbo car, the turbo should act like a resonator and quiet it down a little more then in the video.

Im sure you go get a custom one made.. throw a good sized resonator onto some piping and bring it out to a Magnaflow or something. Magnaflows are pretty quiet even w/o the resonator.
But if your looking for something that's better quality, I suggest a HKS Legal, or Fujitsubo-Giken. Ask Ritz s14 about his exhaust (not sure if its 3 inch).

Maybe you've got a leak somewhere? Take it to a muffler shop and have them check it.

If you look for JASMA certified exhausts that will get you in the ballpark...however; most are designed for the SR20DET...having a turbo quiets down the exhaust a lot. They all work fine on a KA, but without that turbo in place you will be louder.
5Zigen makes a 60mm Border III Catback for the SR20DE that should be quiet on a KA.
that Blitz Realize TT exhaust looks like it wouldn't be too bad on a NA car.. it even has a resonator.. question is, how much do you really wanna pay for an exhaust.. some of them go up to 700USD for a 240sx, plus shipping and so on.. which is nuts..

No leaks it's just loud on a KA. Nice and quite on that KA-T though.

I am looking to quiet my car down. Quick question though, how much does the exhaust weigh? I have a JIC Magic Titanium right now and so I am curious how much weight I am adding by going with either RSR or Blitz.
I have an Espelir JGT500 on my SR, combined with a random technologies cat and a downpipe. It's unbelievebly loud with the silencer removed, but with it in it's just a tiny bit louder than stock with no noticeable effect on performance, except that it feels torquier in the low end.

http://www.more-japan.com/images/tcv-3.jpg
It fits as a cat replacement for all 240SX, Z32, Skyline but it is NOT a catalytic converter. It's a spring loaded valve that pushes the exhaust flow open at higher rpm. Should be a bit quieter than using a test pipe and reduce db at low rpm, but it will still be loud at WOT. The internals has aerodynamic vanes and venturi design, and should be very good keeping low end torque and high end hp, hence "Torque Control Valve"

hmmmmm just noticed this last reply when searching after my last thread ( http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=88710 ). The sard unit has definitely caught my attention. Looks nice in the pictures and I might end up buying one of those. I would LOVE to see a design type picture that shows how the unit works like apexi provides
i.e. http://apexi-usa.com/graphics/products/2384.jpghttp://apexi-usa.com/graphics/products/2385.jpg that explains alot
When looking at the SARD unit im guessing at the way it functions. in the first picture it shows something within the exhaust that looks like a porn star anal tulip. would I be correct if I were to say that thing functions like this?

would my ultra precise ascii drawings sum it up properly? that cone in the center is pushed by pressure down into the center of the device which is a larger diameter providing adequate or equivalent flow. when there isnt enough pressure some side driven springs push the cone back up towards the flange to quiet it down a bit? id love to get some sort of dimensions or sketches of that thing to give me a rough idea. is it 3 inches inlet/outlet? (id imagine it is as it would be stupid if it wasnt but I wanted to ask.)

you can always go custom. since youre turbo'd my guess is you'd want to keep the exhaust flowing nicely. you can put resonators all the way down (or however many you want) and then pick whatever muffler you want.
i met a mustang owner that did this and he had a high flow cat. i forgot the name of the muffler he was using. but it was pretty quiet for normal driving.

hey guys, im looking for the quietest exhaust for an sr (without sacrificing much power of course), and so far it seems to be in between the greddy power extreme 2 and the blitz realize tt. but i just talked to somebody who didnt think the blitz was very good and that it was pretty loud at higher rpms compared to a greddy. can anyone confirm this, everyone seems to say the blitz is the quietest and sounds really good. i need to order an exhaust asap, and i dont wanna be stuck with something im not happy with.

It's hard to avoid the huge 115mm tip with any Japanese branded N1 style exhaust.
I used to have a GReddy Ti on mine with the 115mm tip and it looked even worse than other 115mm tips because the lip was rolled! It looked like grapefruit shooter!
I now have a GReddy PE2 as it is JASMA certified but I have yet to run my car so I do not know how quiet it actually is. It is the only N1 style exhaust I could find that was JASMA certified. It was very hard to get though, a long wait.
Hopefully combined with my Catco high-flow catalytic converter it will be pretty quiet. If not I will try something else like a Japanese branded high-flow catalytic converter such as NISMO, SARD, etc.

OK the quietest exhaust is the Apex'i GT Spec and I almost guarantee it. I had it on SR, KA, and RB (which is quiet to begin with). Compared to a URAS RS, Apex’I N1 or like the SS Autochrome knock offs of those exhausts, the GT Spec is considerably quieter.

As "tastyratz" posted, the function is similar to that active tail silencer, with the exception that this piece is much closer to the engine. Since it is closer to the engine, it should have a much bigger impact on the scavenging affect from proper exhaust gas velocities.

Yes that's the one. Just because an exhaust has bigger piping doesn’t mean it's going to be louder than its smaller counterparts. The GT Spec is quiet because of its muffler design and the addition of a resonator.

Under normal driving I don't really notice it especially with all the other noises my car makes (rattles, tires, fuel pump, etc.). Under WOT it lets out a nice growl but it still really subtle, and sounds awesome. for reference I have: Stock T25 and manifold, greddy turbo extension, 3" down pipe, and a catco cat.
Cons: the muffler canister is huge and shiny! along with the tip. But i think it's growing on me.

Well finally got it installed today. It was "in stock" then became out of stock and took forever to get from japan sea freight. Drew at raretrick kept me fairly informed of it's progress. Needless the only thing I can say I'm unhappy about with it, is that it didn't come with a cool sard sticker. The fit and finish of it is spot on. As for quiet. It's super quiet. I'd put it at stock levels of quiet at idle. Setup is a KA24de with Intake, MR header, MR downpipe, Apexi N1 exhaust, Sard TCV. While quiet at idle... it's still noisy going down the road. The drone is much quieter now and the response it gave was really nice. The acceleration is now like a KA.. broad torque.. not like a honda any more. I think if you replaced a cat with it then you'd see same tones but better acceleration up high... if you replaced a test pipe with it then you'd be way happier now with the power down low. All in all. I think the part was definitly worth the money. +2 to streetability +1 to noise reduction +.5 to power gain. Way better than a test pipe any day of the week.
And to comment on it's operation. Yes that little round thing inside just pushes back on a spring. Once pushed back the pipe opens up all around it. I definitly don't think you'd loose HP up top with it. Even on a turbo engine.

augh, blitz got it so close with their tt, why couldnt they have offset the tip to come out the bottom of the rear muffler in order to tuck the can up into the space behind the bumper where the OEM one goes? sigh.
i have a 2.5" BRM with the optional 22" resonator. On topic it's not really very quiet, but its quieter and has a mellower more 'streetable' note to it than most baby shooters ive heard. the sound is pretty deep and polite while just cruising, but if you romp on it people will hear you. p.s. dont buy a brm, the dudes jig sucks cuz it hangs way low under the sway bar, the hangers are all different heights, the welds are all grapey, etc. NOT worth $600. actuall i dont think theyre making them anymore for a while cuz of so many complaints.
heres a pic after i just installed it. what you cant notice in this photo is how the rear muffler is tilted like 8° cuz they welded it to the rear piping improperly and looks ghetto.

It's LOUD as hell though.. I could feel his exhaust through my carpet when we were going side by side on the highway (doing about 100km/h ~ 60mph), heh.
Get a nice aftermarket exhaust, like the RSR, Blitz or Fujisubo..
edit: you could get that SSautochrome off ebay. A buddy of mine has one and it's pretty damn quiet. I was actually quite surprised by the quality of the exhaust and the fitment. On top of that, it's quieter than my RSR exmag hehe.. I believe he got it for like 200CDN shipped to his house!

Fujitsubo Legalis R without a doubt.
Solid construction, stock appearance, fat resonator
Pros: Very quiet at idle and while running. Reminiscent of my stock muffler.
Conversations and music are not sacrificed by db levels
Cons: $750+ price tag
Special order 60day down time
Useless for revving ppl up....theyll never hear you...haha
Fujitsubo is by far the quietest. I've been running one for over a year and it's been great. As the other two posters have said, there is no other way to describe it other than it being sooo quiet and near stock sound.

wow are you serious??? I have the SSautochrome dual n1 replica right now and it's loud as hell to me... It started off quieter but after i "broke it in" it got a LOT louder...
I'm looking for something that essentially is super quiet between 1-3000 rpm for normal driving, but something that really opens up and sounds awesome when you step on it... I am seriously considering going with a stock exhaust but I still want it to have that growl at WOT.

Oh really? That kinda sucks.. I heard his exhaust maybe 2-3 weeks after he installed it.
In that case, you can try that Fujitsubo Legalis R, or HKS Drager exhaust. But both of those cost around 700 bucks :(

well, after smashing the premuffler in to fit with my aluminum driveshaft, i finally got my realize tt exhaust to fit, and it is ridiculously quiet. i seriously doubt any exhaust made for a turbo car is quieter (if it is, it doesnt need to be). the muffler goes down to 2in. though and probably creates a bit more backpressure than normal, but i didnt really notice too much of a difference (although i need an fpr so my car isnt running super rich to really tell). anyways, great exhaust, looks good, and there is no way you will find anything quieter. this thing isnt even louder than my na 3000gt with 3 cats (and i even have engine back exhaust on my 240).

Another vote for Blitz Realize TT, I can't even hear it on the highway and I do lots of driving. And it's held up for 3 years (2 seasons for drift events and tons of 8 hour road trips) so far and still sounds pretty much stock. Best part is that it's easy to get in the US. It does have a slight fit issue with it's huge resisonater.

well, my friend just got a blitz nur spec for his s13 and he said that his stock exhaust (custom 2.5" piping + stock muffler) would fit my s14 with some modification to the flanges... so I think i'm gonna go that route... unless I can hear someones blitz realize tt in the next month or two and it really is as quiet as stock...
btw: dooes that sound right?? the "stock" exhaust from my friends s13 fitting on my s14 with some modification to the flanges?

sweet! sorry I never got a clip of it. I made one but it distorted so bad it was useless. Do you have (ground) clearence problems with it? Mine hangs kinda low. I'm planning on getting some Nismo exhaust hangers as the ones I have seem to be stretching...if that doesn't work, than I'm gonna start cutting and welding! :hammer:

I just put the 5Zigen ProRacer Aspec turbo exhaust on my NA KA and its rediculously quiet! Even with header and high flow cat!
I previously had only an exhaust, an Apexi N1 dual, and the 5Zigen wins hands down.
cruising at 2-2500 rpms at 40-50mph its barely noticable, almost stock.

I just got the exmag on my n/a, and it is pretty loud.
I was reading an older thread about the exmag, and someone said that their exmag got quieter after 2-3 months. Did anyone else's exmag get quieter after some time?

I suggest that the last 2 people who posted in this thread FUCKING SEARCH, because there have been 2 "exhaust" threads per week every week for the past month, I don't know why you had to dredge one up from 8+ months ago instead of READING one of the ones that I have PERSONALLY answered the question in.
