View Full Version : best parts for drifting

08-13-2005, 03:07 PM
ok so im pretty new to everything. i like to drift in my 240, so far ive got shocks and springs, and lsd. of course i cant get my car to drift like cars in d1, but i was wondering what parts i should purchase next to improve my drifting the most. i know i can get stuff like tie rods, tension rods, rear upper arms, rear toe links. but i dont have personal experience drifting with these parts installed, and since im kind of on a tight budget i was just wondering what order i shuld maybe buy these in, and where i can get a good price on these things. i just payed to get my sr20 blacktop installed this week so im really low on money... what will make the greatest improvement as far as suspension goes?

drifting depends almost entirely on driver.. so just practice and try to get better. as for parts, i would say coilovers and lsd. you dont need the SR to drift... thats just what ricers do when they buy a 240... must get an SR and zbrakes.. stiffer suspension parts would help, but you can do pretty well with what you got.

The best thing to do is buy my PowerTrix tension rods! $100! They will make a noticeable difference!

coilovers are not THAT important
LSD is necessary
bucket can be supplemented with twine and/or velcro

how much for the swap?

To help your drifting the most... pay $50 go to altamont on the 18th and just practice.

08-13-2005, 04:24 PM
i got my blacktop front clip for $2200, and the shop is installing it for $600. this shop is awesome cuz they look after their customers... like they do their best putting it in the first time so they dont have to do labor on it in the future. but if something happens u can always go back and have them fix it. i wont mention them cuz they said they dont like to advertise, and their buisness is through reference cuz they do such a good job. if anyone wants to know and lives aournd my area then PM me. and theyre a greddy dealer so they get those thigns for cheap and lotsa good used stuff. i got my used down pipe for $40 through them. i spent like $4000 for my whole swap but im getting stuff like turbo timer koyo radiator and whole bunch of junk.. too much to list.

This isnt true. It helps substantially but isnt needed. I have seen some pretty sick open diff drifters.

You clearly don't have much experience drifting. The words "open diff" and "drifter" should never be used in the same sentence.

if you wanted to go fast, you would have been smarter and bought a mustang. it will take much more money to get a 240 to go fast than your average muscle car.. remember, theres no replacement for displacement. even if you install a big turbo in your 240, the torque from a big displacement v8 will get you. dont be a retard. you are a ricer. admit it and accept it. get on the bandwagon and enjoy the ride...

some people don't like mustangs. 240sx + sr20det = 13's, 12's with good tires for around $5,000-6,000 including the car if you didn't get assraped on it. the car handles good and is fast and cheap. some people like to go fast and be able to turn. ps - some people like to go fast in cars other than domestic v8s. moron. i will have a v8 next, in the form of a turbo LS1, which is the only other car i was going to go with over the 240sx, but i didn't have that kinda money right now considering a nice LS1 is going to run you quite a bit more than $6,000.

"remember, theres no replacement for displacement. even if you install a big turbo in your 240, the torque from a big displacement v8 will get you." and you call me a ricer... lol. omg, that torque is gonna get me, i better watch it. i love when the you guys get angry when people aren't going to just drift their 240 or autox it... fucking ignorant wanna-be drifter homos.

Are you serious? 12's is decently fast for a street car... yea there are faster cars out there, but on average, 12's is a lot faster than your average street car... and 12's in a 240sx with a sr swap, where the motor is basically stock is pretty damn impressive...

08-14-2005, 09:07 PM
how come no one really talks about clutchs? you can have all those stuff and in the end, wont be able to put it down if your clutch cant hold it.

and stock SRs are not fast. they are more like high 13 to 14 sec cars. 12 secs will cost you more than 6gs. including your car.

Jcb890
08-14-2005, 10:25 PM
12's isn't fast for a street car? lol, riiight... there's way faster shit out there thats streetable or a "street car" but 10% of the cars on the road, probably less, are in the 12's or lower.

stock SR's arent fast? where the hell are you getting your high 13 to 14 sec runs here? i'm not talking completely stock with a smic and stock 7psi here... 12psi + front mount, etc = 12's. when i get my timeslip i'll add up my cost for all my parts buddy ;)

werd... but back on topic... practice is the best thing you can do (i wish i had a good place to practice).... and upgrade as you go... that way you will feel what your upgrades do for your car and you can adjust from there... but in the end its what you want to do... not what people on a forum tell you to do...

hmm a great shop, cheap labor, carries all sorts of parts, but doesn't want to be mentioned.

I have to think not wanting to advertize must mean they are flying under the radar for some reason...probably no licenses in the shop.

2nd... get ur priorities straight...

i beg to differ. i can push my gf's integra to its limit before i even get to 50% of my ability. that thing is booboo. i can make the tires rub on the fenderliner on on ramps. push just a little harder and THEN the tires start to squeal.

heres my advice:
buy what you want and what you need. Research the parts you want cause you sound like you dont know what your doing. I understand that you come here to ask whats the best part for drifting, but if we tell you, you'll probably wont know what to do with it.

sdtouge
08-20-2005, 10:18 PM
also, anyone can push a car to the limits, then you learn how to transfer weight and how to turn in better, and that can take the car farther....

otherwise, what you just said, is that you could tie a profeesional driver ion the same car, what i dont beleive. no flame tho

you need a pair of glasses. A huge part of drifting and driving is where you are looking as you are moving forward. Where you look indicates where you end up. Work on your eyes and focus on the line and your driving will improve. Besides that you should get an LSD. You need an LSD because you are a drifting noob and will end up wasting tires doing peglegs. Drift pros can drift without them, for the rest of us we need LSD.
