Drinking + Ebay + bank accout = New car

(Excuse me if I skip around before you read this since Im near 144 onces)

Okay 20minutes ago I met my next project car. Its going to be fun. I don’t know what to call it, “ The Turd”, “Little Snail” , The Toad”, etc.. I always liked Starlets, I always liked stripped cars, I am obsessed with weight. So when I saw it I had to get it. It will be my project for the next 1-2 years. It will be my new weekend warrior:)

Here are some stock specs: for the 1981 Starlet
27hp at the crank
22sec 0-60
21sec ¼ mile at 58mph
heavy version 1720lbs
light version 1480lbs

(And yes, It's the first car I have owned who's 1/4 mile is faster then its 0-60) :D

So Im guessing that mine as stripped as it is, will sit around 1500lbs with my engine of choice. Which brings me to to next topic. Engines. The first thing that came to my mind was rotary’s, But I know Nissans so I will most likely go with a Nissan engine. I would like to see what you guys would recommend. Here are my main choices. And yes 4cyl is about the limit the engine bay can handle with out alteration.

Sr20det
Ca18det
FJ20et
Turbo II 13B
NA 13B
4age 20valve
4agze

Like I said, I am leaning toward Nissan mainly between the FJ and SR. But it’s a one year project so I have plenty of time to decide, so give me your insight.

Here is my new car

Why don't you go with the 5k? Put some sidedrafts on it, a nice cam, headers and exhaust.. I think you'll be set. Those things don't need a lot of power to get going... In fact a fully modded 5k may be TOO fast for that car. My girlfriend's is a bone stock 5k and it pulls hard, just needs more airflow at the higher revs.... bigger carbs!

I don't even know how well the other motors will fit... but the main thing is you can't go super duper balls out HP in that thing. It won't be drivale.. and you'll die!

that is in-fucking-credible. that thing looks damn mean. nice roll cage too. i vote 4agze or 4age with some itb's, that thing would haul balls.

Thanks. You guys dont want to know what I got it for. And by saying that, I dont meen I payed a shit load. rather the oposit. It was luck and bordom.

Tygma, that is some nice advice. I checked out the other starlets on the net, and several with that set-up you listed run 12's all motor. I also came across something called a 3tc. some old school turbo engine that people love to put in them. I see that people talk about 3k and 5k, but I admit I do not know any thing about the old school toyota engines. I just bought the car 2hrs ago, so I have some research to do, but I feel confrotable with a nissan engine and fabrication. But if I find the 5k superior to the nissan engines I have listed, then I will buy the toyota fsm, and read it before I go to sleep everynight.

CA!!!!!

I don't know anything about that car though. I just think being able to rev really high with turbo is cool, especially in a little car like that.

It looks cool. Very cool.

3TC is NOT TURBO STOCK

BUT ITS Bulet Proof

a 4ag w/ carbs is already too much for it,

we (illegal garage) are building one w/ celica rear end, 7AG w/ ITb, it will be able to do weelies :D , that and the nitrous is going to be too much, but it will be fun.

f20c!!!! f20c is perfect for little light weight cars and I can imagine it putting you into the 12's easily without any mods done to the engine. Lotus Elise=197hp/1975lb/13.7 1/4 mile. If you are determined on going Nissan I think ca18det w/s15 turbo goes for my choice. I want a Starlet/510 so bad but I'm not capable of doing a total build and by the time I have enough money/skill they will be pracically gone. Good luck with the project and I hope you love it

Do you even think that a V8 could fit in that engine bay?

Im leaning thowards a turbo motor. 350-400hp low 10sec car. An Na would be cool to tare up the track, but Im going to use my 240 for all around performace, and just see how fast I can get the Starlet to go. This one also came with a celica rearend instaled, and dragslicks, and even comes with another starlet, A running starlet to be used as a parts car. Though I told him he can keep the other starlet. This ones basically all set up, I just need, a motor, fuel tank, clutch brake and gas pedals and lines, and windows, and seats, and other little things. But those will be replaced with performance pedals, fuel cell, acrylic windows, and bucket seats so it saves me the time to take them out.

Snail - 3tc is a good motor. It's pretty much bullet proof, it can also be tuned easily... a friend has it in his Celica. Older Toyota motors aren't too complex... they are also very forgiving. If you need help with the 5k, just PM me. 4k and 5k parts almost ALL match up which means... CHEAP replacement parts -

Some examples..
Clutch kit - 99 bucks
Carb rebuild(for stock, but just an example) - 24 bucks
Motor mounts - 40 each

You get the idea.

Oh and one more thing... You will love driving it. If you have driven a 510 before, you'll like this better. The rear feels much tighter and the wheelbase is shorter so you can whip it around any turn.

gt2871r .86 would be a great turbo for that car once you decide on what engine you want if you are looking for fast as shit. 400whp+1600 pounds = whoa

I sold my rb26 car, and bought a hatch and s15 sr + some goodies, to have some thing I can drive on the street everyday. But ever since I sold the 26, Iv been missing the cars that you can not drive on the street every day, so my best bet is to get both.:)

Thanks. They are 13x7's . I dont know the offset. I checked how much new performance tires cost, and it is 39$ a pop.:) The car comes with two sets of Drag Slicks aswell. Though Im kind of iffy about going 100+mph on some 13's.:)
