This is a long story but please bear with me. I think my LSD maybe broken.
I bought a Nismo Street 2 way LSD about a year ago and for a long time I procrastinated about the install. After a few months, a guy I know who works at a shop said he could install it for me for really cheap. I had it installed.
After driving on it for a while, I noticed a strange whirring noise but he assured me that it was fine. Long story short, it wasnt. The ring gear was not torqued properly and one of the bolts came out completely and jammed between the ring gear and pumpkin. Kablooey, the pumpkin was trashed.
I pulled the LSD out and it seemed to be alright, so I swapped it into a different pumpkin at a different shop. Everything seemed ok so I went on my way and installed it back at my place. Everything seemed good except for this...
PROBLEM IS HERE FOR ANYONE WHO IS THAT LAZY
*this situation is with the rear wheels up in the air and free to spin as they feel*
-When I spin one wheel forward, the other one does not react immediately. Measuring the output shafts at the pumpkin, the shaft can turn about 1/4" before the other wheel catches and spins the same direction
-If I force the wheel to stop spinning, the other one hesitates again for 1/4" or so and then comes to a clunking stop
-If I wiggle the wheel left and right, about 1/8 turn each way, there is a hesitation like the other situations, and it makes a loud knocking noise when forced in the opposite directoin. (as an LSD would when it's slipping at low speed)
My concern is, i dont remember it doing this before, is this normal?
Please help, there is a drift event coming up this weekend, and i'd like to know if it's safe for me to make the 300 mile trip, as well as drift on this differential.
