I've recently gotten my car painted so I had to rip off the black stripe around some parts of my car. NIssan wants a insane amount of money for just some tape...Does anyone know what a good replacement would be? I heard some bodyshops use some kind of 3M tape, but do you guys know which one? Here's an example of what i'm talking about.

btw that's not my car. i'm just using it to show what i'm talking about.

1. Go to your local Sign Shop.
2. Get them to cut you some Matte Black Vinyl to size.
3. Install using soapy water to smooth out the bubbles and a heat gun to prevent creases.
4. Thank me.

yeah you can't really tell with the black - the funny thing is my current car (the one in the sig had three layers of tape in certain areas before I stripped it all down and repainted...I guess the previous bodyguys were a bit lazy, just painted over and retaped)...

this is my old car, the silver shows the lack of tape a lot better (nevermind the rubberband tires and poor offset wheels):

Hah! I actually have the entire OEM strip, in bag with Nissan part number just sitting in my car... Don't know what to do with it, since my car is sold. What does the stealership want for it, anyway?

Those tape are pretty expensive from what I remember. I'm planning on using electric tape!

more importantly, what do YOU want for it?

Tell me what they charge, so I at least know what the ball-park is. Don't worry, I won't price gouge :D... But be honest. I could always call the dealer and run the part # for price (if it wasn't for my inherrent laziness) :D.

Leave that stupid looking tape off!

I got it because it makes the car look OEM after paint. By the way, its not tape. Its a weird hard plastic and its pretty thick.

You do know that some S13s came from the factory without the tape stripe (like mine) so looking oem shouldn't be an issue.

A large portion had the stripe... And it does add to the OEM look, IMHO. What's the sense in arguing over opinions. I think it looks good, especially on a two-tone, where it designates the end of one color and the beginning of another.

actually 3m does sell it.. u can get any sizing and color that was ever produced for car companies.... anyways its gonna be rough 25-35 bucks for a 25' roll... so yeah can be bought at ur local autobody supply and paint store.... u have to bring that car to them so they can match the size tape and color... =)..

I like the tape strip, therefore i want to replace mine. Especially on white 240s, I think the black stripe just adds a little touch to make the car not look too....white. Especially because I just put some black rims on, I think the stripe will look even better. I wish I had a camera...I think i'll go the 3M route. I just need to find a place that sells it.

Another great and easy idea is to just smear a thin line of feces all the way around the car.
I mean, if you want it to look like shit there's nothing better to use than actual shit. Plus when it dries it makes a great door ding protector.

My 240sx got wayyyyyyyyy too many dings on the passenger side... It;d be good to have some type of door protector (our cars are not well protected like some of the nissan sedans)

Jus go to pep Boys and buy the pinstriping kit thats about and inch thick and use that. 8-10 buks tops and it looks clean. I used it on my white silvia and it looks super Stock OEM style. =)

when i first got my car almost 3 years ago it had a partial strip missing, so all i did was clean it and dry where it was missing, then put on some electrical tape

its still on there, never had to replace it like i thought

I removed it from both my 240sx soon as I got them, looks way better without, I hate pinstriping and that big black strip.
