What do you think would be a better way to spend $30K

I've found you can pick up a very nice and clean 91-94' 20-40K mile NSX for ~$30K which is about the same amount a new Z would cost me.

Which would you guys pick and why?

Nsx or zo6

That's a tough call.

With the Z. Uprgrade rear sway bar, and un-stagger the tires.

With the Nsx, you're getting more of a looker than the Z and better handling. Nsx should have a little more pull also

Repair costs...i have no clue
Insurance..no clue
Upgrade costs...i'm guessing Z is cheaper

When you sit in the cockpit of the nsx, it's kinda like an FD. You wanna drive fast. The cockpit of the Z is more like a concept car and the Nsx is more sporty.

sykikchimp
08-04-2005, 03:24 PM
From what I've read the cost to upgrade the NSX is comparable to the 350Z. Headers for example are around ~$1500 a set.

The NSX is faster out of the box than the Z.

Personally I think the Z in Nismo trim is about the same on the looks scale as the NSX is stock. IMO the only thing the Z has going for it is that it is new, and under warranty where as the NSX is ~12 years old. I'm not sure how much the age is a factor though since you can find them with literally like 10,000 miles lol.

In terms of looks, I don't believe there is anything more eye catching than a light grey colored NSX with the parking lights cruising down the ave. . .

But, a warranty does sound good, especially when it's a Nissan :P

NSX hands down if you are looking for a weekend fun car that looks great. Z is more practical around town, more comfortable, roomy and new. The stock Z handling is horrible compared to the NSX.

This is a apples and oranges comparison. NSX is a no compromise sports car made to showcase Honda's technology (cutting edge in 1990). The 350Z is a mass market sports coupe made to sell to everyone who wants a sporty coupe for a decent price. The only thing equal is their horsepower and current market cost.

NSX +1

350z is a boat. Lots of the early NSX issues are addressed by replacing them with late model matinace parts. I used to have a list somewhere when I wanted one. I ripped it out of the February 2004 Sport Compact car. It's nothing major really.

radhaz
08-04-2005, 06:54 PM
My vote is for the NSX, the Z is a great car but you're comparing apples to oranges really. The NSX is a poor man's exotic while the Z is a new sports car.

If you want reliability, less stress, and the comfort of knowing if something goes wrong you've alway's got the dealer to turn to then the Z is for you.

If you're looking for timeless styling, no warranty to violate when upgrading combined with knowing you own an "exotic" then its the NSX.

If I was buying for myself I would go for the NSX and not look back and if I was buying for a loved one then I would go with the Z.

Tough choice in the end, best of luck with your decision.

i would rather go with the nsx...

nsxprime is pretty much the only good forum out there that ive found...

comptech makes an amazing s/c kit for it and they seem to last forever (like 60-70k miles at least, just nobody drives their nsx that much lol) whats cool about it is that they offer 2 sized pullies for it allowing you to choose between HP levels...

i just love the engineering behind the nsx, they built a lambo or any pasta rocket that has the same build quality as a honda, whats not to love? for example they throw a small 8 or 10" sub under the passengers feet and you really cant tell its there...

have you driven an nsx? my dad and i test drove one and he didnt like it, but i loved it... its all a matter of taste, and different cars fit different people better

im trying to find a cosmetically damaged one and fix it for a daily drivers/ future project

You have to wonder why the NSX has been around for so long, there's probably something special that car that many people don't realize. It seems way overpriced now for the recent competition, but people still seem to love them.

Again, Keiichi has one...LOL. He's driven more cars than you can imagine, and his personal car is the NSX. hmmmm. again, don't take this seriously, it's just a joke but still an interesting fact.

3. hasnt been raged on too much
4. exterior and interior shape is good
5. no rust

It's gonna have low mileage...probably 60k. If age and mileage are the only variable for you in the equation, then by your standards a 14 year old Ferrari or Honda Civic should be worth the same, exotic or not. :loco:

see guys i have myself a 350z track rite now and i wouldnt trade it for anything else. this car is stable all the way to max speed! i hit highways here in NY around 130 withouth even realizing it. anyway, i love the NSX as well but it isnt a car you could drive everyday, so unless you have the finances to have another car for daily driving, then you are better off with the Z.

I had the same question a few years ago. It went down to getting the Z. I just wanted to start with something new with the latest engineering. More bang for my buck and aftermarket parts are reasonable priced.

But I spent constant hours in reviewing each car. It drove me nuts every time I see the NSX.
I have to say you can't go wrong with either. I drove the NSX. Everytime I cruised around with my friend's NSX, it just made me feel like butter. You know what, I like my 350Z better.

---Now THAT is peer pressure---

:goyou: :goyou: :goyou:

lol

Personally I think the Z and the NSX are very close in the looks department. If the NSX was a 9, the Z would be an 8.5.

But they have very different qualities. The Z is round, and curvy. The NSX is sharp and weapon like. From what I can gather, The Z is actually more attractive to most girls. I really like the 'no compromises' look of the NSX though. Such a tough call... :-/

**Just for some visual perspective.. I know you all know what a Z looks like.. :-P

not wasting it by spending it on a car, haha :p

as stated by others, nsx is pretty tough to be a daily driver, more of a weekend car, hence there are quite a few out there with low mileage (comparitive to most cars out there), it's just soooo nice imo, never driven it, but some people describe the handling is like sex...

350 is great for a mass produced car, i probably would spend a little bit more for g35c though... but both could go on a major diet...

Personally I'd rock the NSX. The NSX has a much bigger pimp factor, corners better and looks 1000x better IMHO. With the Z you get Warranty coverage, although all the recalls(if any) would be done on the NSX, plus it's a Honda. Many banks will not loan money on cars older than 2 years, so refinancing could be a PITA if you finance it. The NSX is kinda slow, but there are SC kits as well as various NA odds and ends, and with the money you save on suspension you could spend on a nice exhaust and some ITBs, :D

I pick the NSX.

The NSX in all its glory is one sickass car but the service will kill you... i was intrested in buying one until i found out that a tune up cost about 5 grand cuz they have to rebuild the tranny. The 350Z dosent hold a candle to the NSX stock or hooked up cuz a well tunned NSX can hit 1000hp but the cost of keeping your NSX running and in good shape will kill you....Also SuperHonda.Com has an NSX section

Nissan are great but come on lets be real here... both are expensive to tune but the NSX is simply a better car whats the most amount of power you've seen come out of a 350 and don’t mean RB or SR powered either.... what its around 600 last I heard, every thing in the NSX is the same crap that comes off the race track, don’t let your Nissan pride cloud your judgment. The NSX is an exotic car what exotic car doesn’t need some kind of crazy maintenance, the tranny is taken down and all the syncros are replaced. If you don’t believe me ask your Acura/Honda dealer...

Get the NSX.

To be honest, a used NSX might *still* be more reliable than a brand-new 350Z.

If it helps your piece-of-mind, get an aftermarket warranty or something, but NSX's are very, very well-built cars, highest repeat-buyer stats of ANY CAR sold in the United States, percentage-wise.

If I could own an NSX, I wouldn't own anything else.

IT'S MR. HOORAY MR!!

if you get that thing you better spend every extra penny putting gt500 aero on it. too many faggots with NSXes who take like 5 months to decide on what sideskirts to get and shit and never do anything cool with them.

needs to look like this -

The nsx may be old and cheap but it will always be a 90 thousand dollar car. Isn't insurance and maintenance going to be a bitch?

From what I've read the maintenance is actually pretty low for the performance you get. Just make sure you buy one not in "snap ring range"

And what is this snap ring range?

Theres a certain range of VIN's on 91' models that could have problems with a snap ring in the transmission shatering. If it breaks it can cause other damage and costs a lot of money to repair..

Most guys in Snap ring range just buy late model 6-speed trannys and replace the stock tranny.

I hate snap rings. Especially if you don't have the right pliers!!!!

I would buy the NSX... I have more experience with the NSX than the 350Z, but the NSX is an all-around awesome car - a legend. It not only has incredible handling, it's very drivable at the limit. That vtec 6cyl screaming in your ears is absolutely intoxicating!!!

Dang it, your making me want another NSX!

Maintenence/Insurance will indeed be more expensive with the NSX. But I think it's worth it.

haha, just get liability and pocket the savings incase something goes wrong. I checked into getting a c5 last night. I got quoted for 305 every 6 months for a vette. I am 21. I think i might go that route.

Yup... I've been driving one of these around for the last week or so... 2001 911TT x50 package. I'm gonna be sad when I have to let it go.

If you are financing the car most of the time they do not allow you to get liability only. And any damage you get from an accident to your own and anyone elses car, along with possible hospital bills far outweigh how much you would want to pay out of your own pocket even with the savings. :P

That is very true - liability only is for someone who can't afford it period... not a 21yr old in a corvette.

Sorry, don't take it personally, it's just that in my opinion, the risk far outweighs the benefit.

I would be buying the car in cash, so i wouldnt have to cover the car fully. Besides, possible hospitol bills would covered as you must pay for that, you dont have to cover the car if u are in an accident. Insure yourself, put what you would be paying in the bank, if you need it, use it, if not, pocket the savings.
