Well, i was about to put em in when I remember I prob need to size em up.

Can anyone tell me the proper way to install new spark plugs.

Thanks.

Bosch is great. I have'm on a near to stock 240 and haven't had any problems. I changed to Bosch about 5k miles ago. I believe stock spark plugs are NGK? And that's all the previous owner used. I did the spark plugs when I was doing my oil and quarterly checkup. I believe you need a deep socket? wrench (not sure of the tool) so you can get to the spark plugs. When you go to replace them, make sure wrench is straight. Maybe there's someone on here that can better explain the process because I'm use to just doing it, rather than explaining. Sorry if I wasn't any help.

If you bought the +4's I don't think there is any gap adjustment to be made. Since there isn't one gap

The tool. Isn't that called a 11/16, or mabey 13/16" socket with a 6" extension? Thats what I call it anyway.

But to answer the question, I have heard from more than a couple shops and mechanics, that if you buy plugs made for you car, you shouldn't have to gap them. Most, like Platinum +4, Denso Iridium, are definatly pregapped.

They should be pre-gapped, but who's to say the box of plugs wasn't dropped before you got them? They are fairly easy to bend, and it makes sense to be certain on them.

damn, would you guys answer the poor newbie's question??

ok, if you get them from dealer, they ARE pregapped. I think they should be 3mm gaps for s13. I'm pretty sure but call up to check anyway. ok, go pick up a auto mechanic tool kit.. Mine was only $20 and get a 6" extension if it doesn't come with it. Take out the plugs is easy, leftie = loosie. Then hand tighten the plugs with the extension then go half a turn more. Mine was gettin real tight goin another 1/4 turn so I just stopped. Dont wanna strip that thang..

save the old plugs and check it's color on pdm-racing.com to see if your engine was runnin rich or not..

Kevin

shame on you if you chat in the tech forum without ownin a took kit!!!

luey, they are definatly not 3mm gaps. That would never work. You must be thinking .3 gaps.

go get yourself a gap tool at the parts store. The gap proper spec should be on a the vacuum chart under the hood, or ask the guy at the parts store to tell you what they should be.

If you do not gap them it may begin to run poorly by improper ignition. You'll be back on this board asking why you car runs like shit after you just changed the plugs.

If there is one thing I can do on this forum, I hope that it is to help you guys work on your cars. You are probably working on them to either gain the satisfaction of fixing something or to save a little money. Here is the greatest tip of all. Do it right the first time, don't say "f* it and see what happens" Sometimes it will work out for you, when it doesn't you won't be a happy camper and wind up spending extra money and time (time is money). I like to learn from experience, I REALLY like to learn from OTHER peoples experieinces +RANT MODE OFF+ -sorry bout that
