OK, this is pretty specific to atlanta but feel free th chime in. Where are there good drift spots in Atlanta? I usually drift in the Tucker area but are there any places where there are other people? Also, does anybody have any good links to good drift websites?

thanks, Alex

If you don't mind a short drive, you should go the the water. Find a nice, hilly region with some twisties. I'd recomment the north east of GA. Get really high up in the hills, and drift. Aim towards the water, and break traction. Hopefully there will be some people walking in the hills, and you have to swerve to avoid them. Then, since your drifting, you cant swerve, and you just hit the brakes. This will regain your traction, and you will hopefully careen off the hill 70 or so feet into the Atlantic.
You could also drive up Stone Mountain... where the lifts take you to, and drift around there. But be sure to go up to the top of the mountain, during winter. This will net you some snow, so when you drift, you are about 95% sure to go over the edge and drop about 3,000 feet.
Aside from that... SHUT THE F UP AND DONT ASK STUPID QUESTION!

I try to hit all of those, so I can have a well rounded, all encompassing response.

Man, you're really on your game today, Ace.

I wouldn't recommend drifting anywhere in public, since you run the high possibility of ramming another car or unlucky pedestrian. Try to find yourself a local track and go on a track day for the drift events. Maybe you could use a VERY open mall parking lot in the middle of the night?

Either way, don't do it in public where/when there are people around. Wrecking your car or killing yourself while screwing around is one thing, but wrecking someone elses car or killing them is just selfish.

Jeff240sx.. i think you had something good going but i really feel that last sentence "SHUT THE F UP AND DONT ASK STUPID QUESTION!" kind of ruined the whole thing. No need for being so blunt. I thought your over all response was very subtle and funny but don't ruin a good thing w/ cursing and bluntness,

Im really not bieng a Jackass.
There are about 3 things wrong with this post. First, there is the whole drifting aspect of it. I know 95% of us are sick of it. Second, what the hell is he smoking to think that we know Atlanta, and like to drift, and are willing to give up our "drifting spot?" That's like telling too many people where the street races are, and leading cops to them.
And finally, on this page, there are 4 topics about drifting. And the general consensus? Drifting is stupid, and don't do it in public, and shut up and stop wasting board space.
And as for the you, Kid... You're just mad cuz I got the balls to say what you think! Sure, it can be crude and harsh, but someone needs to get the point across. And I nominated myself.

I beg to differ. Drifting is not stupid. Its just lost its appeal to a lot of people because a bunch of yuppie ricer schmucks think they can do it and like to "try" and show off in public.

well i just said the jackass part to say it. about drifting, i think it is cool. I havent tried it yet (need a car), but I would love to trie it. I think it is better that he asked about where to go instead of going out and kiling himself or sum1 else because he didn't know where to go to drift.

AceInHole

my incongruent post:
there's a time and place for drifting, but never for "curb humping". if you REALLY wanted to learn the techniques of drift, you'd get as much track and auto x time as possible and drive the car NORMALLY. it takes a LOT of experience to learn how to control the car normally, let alone making use of drifting techniques. Afterwards, naturally pushing the car harder and harder, you'll hit that wall (skillwise, not literally)where pushing harder through turns creates a drift... drifting is basically overcoming that traction wall and using it to your advantage.
now... if you had already gone through all of this... would you really be asking where good drift spots are???

IMO, when someone brings up a topic where the lives and well being of bystanders is in jeopardy... you have the right to bitch. Jeff took it a bit far.... although the rest of us agreed that there are places to do it, like renting a skidpad or going to designated "car control" track days (drifting all the time at the Auto X will most likely piss a lot of people off).
The rest of the problem lies in the general assumption that people who ask such questions as "where's the best place to drift" aren't looking to take the time it takes to actually become a real drifter... and sink into that category of "curb humpers" that we all hate.

Ok. I did take it a bit far. I'll admit that. But to say that I'm an asshole based on a post, c'mon! Why can't I mess with a newb? Who the hell else here posts useful information? I have 2 topics in the friggin FAQ! And I mess with someone and I get:

Quote

Wow, youre a fucking asshole. Why dont you grow up?

First off... I never insulted anyone. Especially the poor guy that posted this topic. So why should I get it. Then... "My spindly arm"? WTF? Jesus, you dont even know me, haven't seen me, and you assume that I'm not a 2nd Degree Blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do? Or assume that I can't bench 250 and weigh 150? FYI: I am both. For shits sake man... don't post crap like that.
You wanna post the same stuff I do, to me, fine! Go off and be comically cynical. But to insult and paint incorrect pictures is a complete assassination of my character. And I don't generally wish bad things to people.. but I kinda hope you broke your finger typing that.

preach it loc!

Seriously guys, if you want to attack someone for being a moron, a poser, etc. the internet is fair game. You can probably digest enough about a person's knowledge and beliefs about something in a post to help, dismiss, or berate them. But physical traits have no place on the internet. You can't tell if someone's arms are spindley or if dey gots gatts up in dere crib. Personally, I have a 27" penis, am built like a professional wrestler, am a black belt in 18 martial arts disciplines, and I used to be a Navy Seal sniper.

But that doesn't really matter does it? This isn't about how big you are, how karate you can chop, or if you can pick a tin can off a fence pole from 100 yards - its about cars and driving. In that world, we can prove who knows what.

And under Ace's logic: Road Atlanta is nice this time of year.

Time for a lock?
