Ok this happened 3 times in 1 week out of nowhere, cars been running great and still runs great. I would turn the key and the car wont turn or even attempt to turn, no crank or nothing but if u wait for a minute or so it starts right up. Now this doesn't happen every time just 3 times out of nowhere. So im just trying to get an idea of what it can be? (ignitor chip?,fuel filter?) <<but then again if those went bad wouldnt it just not start at all. So the key thing is that it wont turn or even attempy to crank when it does this.

Im lost. Ne idea's or similar situations would help alot

thanks

make sure your battery is tight and there are no loose connections...i had this situation in my DSM once and it just turned out to be bad battery terminals....

starter maybe?

just maybe,...starter is the same as the ignition chip?

only thing i can think of, it happening more often now..im in the garage now and it wont start/crank just clicks over

could be a clutch safety switch. i had this in my car it was like trying to start it without pushing the clutch. bad started solenoid could do that also

Was wondering would the car still crank when the fuel pumps bad?

SimpleSexy180

yeah it still cranks with the fuel pump working or not

thank, just trying to rule out what the problem can and cannot be.

So right now all i can think of is:

ignitor chip
ignitor coil
starter

btw what starter can i use?

When you turn the ignition key, do you hear click noise? If so, then the starter solenoid is dying.

Yeah it makes a click, sounds like under the shifter...but isn't it suppost to click? btw where the starter solenoid at?

pics would be good if possible

thanks for all the comments so far. because now it doesn't start at all. All that happens when i turn the key is the click sound.

It sounds like the clicking is coming from shifter because your starter motor is pretty close to tranny housing.

Whenever you turn your ignition key, the solenoid clicks but it is not audible because of the cranking sound of the engine crank.

I feel like it is the starter solenoid. Starter solenoied a.k.a starter switch is right above the starter motor body. same cylinderical shape but a lot smaller.

You have SR black top? Did you swap it yourself?

You didn't say what year your car is. If it is a S14 then it's possible that it's your ignition switch. Everyone assumes when you begin to have starting problems that your starter or starter relay is going bad. What most people don't take into consideration is that the ignition switch plays an important part in the starting circuit....
http://www.samarins.com/glossary/starter.html
A simple explaination of how the starting system works:
When you turn the ignition key to the "Start" position, the battery voltage goes through the starter control circuit and activates the starter solenoid, which in turn energizes the starter motor.
Remember...battery voltage goes thru the ignition switch....if the ignition switch START position goes bad, you won't be able to complete the circuit.
The Ignition switch consist of five positions all independant of each other ....LOCK...OFF...ACC...ON...& START. Although the START position is used ONLY during the starting of the motor, it can & DOES go bad. The symptoms that you are experiencing are typical of an ignition switch going bad.
You can purchase the replacement part here....
http://www.nissan-parts-dealer.com/
Look under Replacement Parts - Mechanical Catalog...you'll have to click on several links....specifically under these links. Just check under the following: Electrical - Ignition system - Ignition lock - Ignition switch
Anyhow...hope this helps...

^^^

Its a s14 (93 to be exact) Someone on another forum told me it can be my starter wire that fell off
and to go under the car look for a black wire ( the juice wire ) to the starter is clips on ( well more like slides on ) and its very well known to fall off

I've got this exact problem on my '93 S13. Can the ignition cylendar(sp) giggle when you put the key in? If so, theres your problem. All I have to do to start it is giggle the key and it fires right up. Part is around $135 at the dealer and comes with 2 new keys.

yeah actually it does when i take that black plastic part out, the ignition cylinder(where i put my key in) moves around alittle

i agree with this, it happens all the time and can really be confusing...

sometimes everything will work, but when you try and start the car, it cant draw enough power to actually start the car through the bad connection...

Yeah but the radio comes on all and all electrionics.

so have you really eliinated this as not being the source? next time it doesnt start, pop the hood and kick the positive batery terminal and see if that helps anything

Ok update: still haven't solved the problem

Got the starter tested and it works. Installed new ignition switch, and still nothing. I ordered a ignition chip so im waiting for that to come in.

I dont see it as being the terminal b/c everything else works on the car, radio will still play, all lights, boost controller, turbo timer, headlights...everything.

NEW UPDATE!

ok we tested the to see if electricity goes threw the starter when its on the car, with one of those light up testers that look like a screwdriver, and by touching it it sparked up and the car started. I still dunno what it really can be. since the guy tested the starter and said it worked...

Im about to order a new starter ne way....

hmm well i sorta fixed my problem...

basically i did a number of things and the starting problem never happened again.

firstly,

i wd40'd the button that the clutch pedal pushes down
i replaced the fuel filter with a z32 filter
cleaned out the throttle body
sprayed electrical cleaner on the ACC relay contacts

it solved my problem... wham 0!

if this doesnt work, just try slowly pushing down the pedal and turning the key.. that worked too sometimes.

oh and dont wd40 the contact points because wd40 is conductive

in general, dont use it on anythign that sees electricity
