anyone know where i can get a reasonably priced hood vent. trying to find somthing to lower under hood temps without buying a whole new hood. yes i know of the uras one but i dont want to wait like 3 months to get it.

been up and down ebay and found nothing but junk. they are all useless and as big as a note card, not to mention freaking tacky.

so yea does anyone know of any kind of large hood vents? jspec dosent seem to carry the masa knockoff vents anymore... id get thoes if they still had them.
havent been able to find any kind of OEM vents that i coud use either. iroc camaro vents are kindof cool, but.. yeah.

or you could fab your own. Alot cheaper, and you can make it DAMN cheap. Someone made it a faq on it on 240sxclub or something.

One of those knockoff companies (raceon, GTP, vis) makes masa knockoff hood vents. Just look around and you'll find it.

i just raise the hood with 25 washers stacked up on top of each other ( you can fit about 2 fingers under the hood)

... since the hood has 4 bolt i use about 100 washers and i also used longer bolts.

all this cost about $6 from home depo.

cooling is very effective because i could actually see the heat waves esaping my hood when i park after a long drive.

ha ha the ubiquitous search reply. go troll somwhere else. i didnt ask if anyone was selling a vented hood, i asked if anyone knew of any aftermarket hood vents.

trying to find somthing that i can rivet on or otherwise attach to my oem carbon hood.

i love the uras vent but i dont want to wait forever having it shipped, and 200$ or so seems pretty steep for a piece of fiberglass.
http://www.uras.co.jp/aero_image/ero_size.gif

any idea where that faq could be found? looked around and couldnt find anything.

i did find a page where a guy cut a vent into a carbon hood on a bmw, but i know it would be a disaster if i tried to cut the vent myself.

the lifted hood thing is also dangerous. if you get into a front end collision, the hood will go towards the driver and passenger. its all good if you dont get into a crash, but heck stuff happens

fuck that shit... if raising the hood is not good enough you can always get your oem hood and just get a welder to cut some vents and customize it your self...

Jesus, as silviadriver already said the lifted hood shit doesn't work (unless you're doing some kind of induction). Well, it does but ONLY WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED. There's this little thing called pressure.......

does uras have more than one type of vent?
I have seen some uras cars with two smaller vents towards the rearward corners, in addition to an inverted one in the middle

that was fucking ghetto. it was like a 1 inch slot chopped into the metal hood. looked like crap and probably didnt work.

yea the washers on the hood thing is dumb, dosent do anything, i had it before, no help. maybe i pulled out the wiper cowl or somthing.

i will go search around for the knockoff masa vents, thanks

found, raceonusa has masa knockoff and uras knockoff, but theyre like 185$ :/ which is pretty much the same price as the legit ones. they also have a couple other ugly vents. anyway, at least now i know where to get some stuff stateside.

Custom Fab it yourself. You can make it look nice if you wanted to. Just depends on how much time and effort you put into it. it'll cost you like, 20bucks to make it legit, and see a lower temp also. Its just on you if you want to pay for something that looks chill, or a unique homemade hood vent.

oh yeah, it wouldn't look JDM and cool....

Yes, R34 GT-R rims are nice *anti-snicker*.

I had been thinking of making a custom vent in my carbon fiber hood but I don't think it would be entirely effective. Just a 2inch by maybe 18 inch slot in front of or behind the windshield sprayers to relieve heat. Not sure if it would work or not.

huh? i like louvered hoods. thats what im trying to get. i have a carbon fiber hood though, so i cant really cut it and bend it into shape, it would just crack off.

60lbs my arse.

i was responding to his post, not a thread, yoshi, so my post is accurate. in any case, its still a viable solution. actually, i think its a better solution.

The closest vents that I could find on ebay that might look alright with some modification is the Chrome Hummer H2 overlay. I have to take a look at it again though.

I'm probably going to be cutting my hood pretty soon as well. 3/4 of my cold pipe gets heat soaked due to my underhood temps. I'm also thinking of getting a profab delrin intake mani gasket to make sure the heat of the head doesn't travel to the intake mani and cold pipe. I'm also going to heat wrap my exhaust mani soon.

S13 OEM hood w/insulation is 50lbs even, CF oem hood is 20-24lbs depending on the quality and brand.

I think the best solution is to leave the OEM style CF hood the hell alone and just do an undervalence... I forget what thread it was (or maybe i"m thinking of FA?), but a guy made a template from cardboard and rocked that for a while, and it lowered his temp by several degrees ( cant remember exactly, but it was very significant), then fabbed one from sheet aluminum for a bling final product... that's the route I'd go.

are you trying to get cooler intake temps? or just trying to let the hot air have someplace to exit?

cuz you can easily find space shuttle style ducts with 3" inlets that you could easily fabricate into your oem hood to let fresh air into your intake area.
