Mobil 1 conspiracy

Has anyone here heard much about the recent changes in the Mobil 1 "synthetic" oil?  
There's been quite a buzz on a few other forums (notably the URL=http://www.vwvortex.com]vwvortex[/URL]) showing customer dissatisfaction at the route Mobil's taken (as a result of their losing a case they brought up w/ Castrol as to the term "synthetic" in promotions.)

Anyone more familiar with the details care to share? I'm curious and underinformed! The new Mobil 1 'synthetic' supposedly underperforms the old Mobil 1 tri-synthetic, and for some of the weights, has a higher viscosity. (or something like that)

I just bought some tri-synth the other day. Maybe it was sitting on the shelf a while.

so what's the best oil other than Mobil 1 and where can you get it and for how much?

adey maybe you could elaborate more? i haven't heard anything about this but am disturbed because like everybody else with half a brain (half kidding <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> ) i too use Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic.

This post has been up for 2 days, and nobody knows what the hell its here for. &nbsp;Someone better tell me whats up with Mobil1 oils, and soon, cuz I have 1,500 miles till next oil change. &nbsp;At which time, I will buy Mobil1, assuming I know what is goin on.
Whoever knows whatever their supposed to know about whats going on with oil, say it already!

Royal Purple $7 a quart IIRC, availiable at NAPA Auto Parts
