2006 Subaru STi facelift

Subaru hired the guy from Alfa Romeo to design the new STi, and he brought that giant opening in the grill with him. Fugly from the front fenders on.

Drivetrain and chassis are unchanged from what I remember, if there are minor changes to the turbo, suspension settings, diffs, tire sizes, then I don't know.


As an aside, all 2006 WRX's (non-STi's) will utilize the 2.5L boxer engine, a detuned version of the STi's engine...or turbo charged version of the 2.5RS engine, depending on how you want to think of it I guess. Power only ups to 230hp (from 227), but I assume power delivery and overall torque are much improved.

I'll have to give the styling nod to Mitsu's EVO IX, which has a much sleeker, angry, kouki-esque front end. I would slap the UK EVO VIII FQ300 rear bumper on it, cut and fill in those nostril openings along the lower front bumper, and call it a day as my perfect EVO. Oh , and give me AYC, Active Yaw Control, too.

by the way, the Lotus Elise is the most beautiful car on the planet.

The biggest change is the DCCD system. It is redesigned to minimize understeer more now. That has always been a big problem with the STI.

Also, they added that air diffuser on the roof to reduce lift at high speed and a rear underbody air diffuser.

That front end is really fugly. It just dosent look sexy. If i ever bought a 30k+ car i'd look for performance and hawtness. That front end reduces this car to a srt-4. Unless it gets some badass aftermarket grills.

Well, for amateur drivers, the Evo and STI are the easiest cars to drive fast at the track. I like the Evo a lot more because it looks more conventional, better stock seats and kicks the STI's butt. Overall, it is a more easier to drive balanced car and you can mount huge 285 tires all around. :) But, the STI's build quality is a lot better.

Oh well, if only I had 30K...

The design was based of the new B11 Concept. Looks like ass. Taillights are retarded and the double wing diffuser/rally wing is just ridiculous.

The 04's look 100000000000 times better.

If you're gonna do something THAT drastic to the front end redesign the whole car. It looks like someone cut and pasted random shit onto the old GD chassis.

Here's the problem:

Alfa Romeos are longer, sleeker, rounder sedans.
Impreza's (of which the STi is one, afterall), is a shorter, taller, boxier car (proportionally).

The large, oddly shaped, attention grabbing grill comes off as refined and distinctive on Alfas.
They are simply out of place on the Subie.

Yea, I'm not crazy about the ALFA grill either. I hate the way Subbie going. Looks like ASS. I'm sure the aftermarket will give us better grill's though.

With the natural lighting it looks better... The nose has got a F1 car type of look... Not too bad I suppose. I think it would look better if the grille didn't dip into the bumper. It's growing on me slowly...

TRD did a yellow show Celica with an F-1 type nose, and it worked better (though still not as good as you'd think...) because the celica is much more "swoopy"

I never, ever liked that design, and I have spent alot of time looking at different body kits for Celicas (brother owns an 01) and it, to me, is one of the fugliest designs, it's to the Celica what the BatBoy kit is to S14's

The Evo DOES look waaaay better now. I always thought it did anyway. But this is the nail in the coffin. I do agree with IGSDann. I wish it didn't dip into the bumper. It would look alot better.

I wish the grille didn't dip into the hood. This is because when you get an aftermarket bumper...your going to have a slight curve going upward into the hood (simliar to a VW Golf with an aftermarket bumper).
