[QUOTE=reefer1114]its all about the purple!!!
I put in purple bulbs, but they turned the gauges bright pink. That was cool while it lasted, but since then, my boost gauge has turned yellow, and the top of my tach turned orange. Oh well, on to something different.

194's

as for the blue film idea....
maybe you could try lighting gels? look up roscoe gels or lee filters. there's a billion colors. Should work fine if you can find 'em.

but they're probably gonna fade soon. I had them in red and within 3 months it looked like crap.

just to make sure, are 194s the same as 168s?

Xracer
07-25-2005, 11:18 PM
no, you need the 194 wedge bulbs. I did this a while ago, more just learn more about the dash and how stuff works than to change the color. ive got blue ones in right now, ive had them for a good 4 months or so, still look the same as when i first put them in.

LEDs wouldnt look right. the beam pattern the LEDs emit are uneven all around therefore it would produce some bright or some dark spots in the cluster. xenon works well though.

You could sand the LED down a little bit. It helps even out the light pattern.

that or put one of those plastic caps on top of the LED to spread out the light pattern...

Rkesh88
07-26-2005, 11:39 AM

drop the steering column, unscrew the guage surround, unscrew the guage cluster, bulbs are in the back of the guage cluster...too easy

Rkesh88

its easy, just try it out. I had blue bulbs in mine, but i like the look of the stock 194s with the blue caps on them, comes out like whitish. but ive misplaced them so im screwed. Anyone know where to get the little colored caps that go on top of the 194s bulbs?

And for the record 194 blubs are the same as 168.

eidufiushfjksadhfs

stop posting so much!...you could have hit the edit button and put all that in one post!

Sorry, it's just annoying. Anyway, yes 15-20 minutes is the max it should take you. Becaeful not to cross thread the large bolts that hold up the steering column. I did :duh:

ok so on my 240 i first used the blue apc 194 bulbs. At first i thought they looked cool, but after a while it just looked like rice, so once they faded i was happy with the color, it came out orange. But with the original bulbs that you get from nissan is a regular 194 bulb with a blue cover, see pic. with that cover on a regular 194 bulb you get a nice white looking guage.

seriously man, it's simple, unbolt the steering colum (bolts are on the bottom), drop the column, unscrew the plastic that surrounds the guage cluster, unscrew the cluster, and the bulbs are right in the back...even never having looked at the car with those simple instructions anyone should be able to pull it apart and put it back together in 25-30 minutes tops.

:werd: http://www.recordedmemory.com/240/red.jpg red autozone bulbs.

I tried blue but the color was inconsistant. i tried LED's but that wasnt gonna be worth the effort to get it to look right. I put red bulbs in and said 'whoah...' so i put it back together. no color fading either after 5 months
