Everytime I turn on the HVAC I get a funky mildew smell. It only smells when I turn on the AC or just the air. I don't recall it smelling when it blows hot air. What do you guys think it is?

Condensation in the evaporator. Make sure the drain isn't clogged up, otherwise water is pooling in the bottom of the case.

I remember seeing on Two Guys Garage, this foam stuff that you spray in there that gets rid of those smells. Let me see if I can find it.

great links kandy, with the first link I confirmed why I always let the vents run for a few minutes on fresh air immediately after I turn off the A/C...

I did that too till I moved to Florida. You do that and hot humid air hits the cold evaporator and makes it wet and warm. Smells like an old boat. best to shut the system down and keep the air you've already dried in the cab(re-circ).

Yeah, I do leave the air on after I turn off the AC. Not because of what you guys said, but I wanted to get my $$$'s worth with the AC so I just leave the fan on till it blows all the cold air out.. Haha

haha that's such a funny and ghetto logic, but i know my friends think that way too ;)

I wonder if running the A/C on HOT mode does anything.

I don't know. But when you turn on the deforster the A/C kicks on.. pretty weird.

it is to remove the moisture which is fogging the windows in the first place.

Ok, so I stuck a ziptie in the evaporator drain, and nothing came out. I probably gotta get that smell remover stuff injected in the A/C. Has anyone ever tried using the stuff in the link that Kandyflip has listed?

I use the frigi fresh at work, if yours is really bad you may need the frigi clean.

I get that smell sometimes but then it wears off after a few minutes or so.
