i have been having this problem off and on now for a month and i am having troubles trying to figure out what it is caused by. As i start my car it runs fine while the engine is still in its warming up phase. as i start to drive it and the engine is at normal operating temp i am coming to stops or sitting at a stop light and my idle hops around (this only happens when i am in neutral). The idle will bounce from around 800rpms to 2-300rpms and sometimes will kill the car. If i rev up the engine it will stop this problem. I just replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor. When i replaced the plugs and wires the car stopped having this problem for bout a week and then started up again. I also checked my intake hoses and replaced a couple hoses. Any help will be appreciated. i hate having this car as a daily driver cause these problems are pertinent to get fixed then :(
Thanks,
Ryan
p.s. I have a 92 240, manual

Test your TPS to make sure its working and in spec. If you are boosted check for intake leaks by doing a pressure test. Idle jumping around usually means there is a leak somewhere that is letting unmeter air into the system.

sounds like it could be a vacuum leak. check all the hoses and also the gasket for the throttle body.

whats the best way to go about testing the TPS sensor? I am not boosting either, the engine is basically stock(intake, exhaust)

I found out how to test the TPS. You can test it with the vehicle off if you unplug the connector and check the resistance varying from closed to WOT. i can go into more detail and make a picture of which two you want to check the resistance on if anyone else has this problem or wants to test theirs. Just send me a pm or somethin.

i tested it by unplugging it and checking the resistances too. using the s14 FSM i noticed that my TPS was completely out of spec. but it turned out that it was still sending .43V closed, and 4.2V open to the ECU. so i guess the resistances don't say much.

i tested mine and i wound up getting like 9 ohms closed and it jumped to like 2.34k ohms at wot. but i think mine is starting to act up, i started to take it apart, but was unable to finish it due to other things on my agenda so i quick threw it back together and only have one of the bolts holding the tps on and i havent had the problem anymore at all.
