View Full Version : High Idle after cleaning air intake manifold

This weekend removed the hose/neck that leads to my intake manifold and cleaned the manifold with a cleaner. Started the car was choking a little then some smoke came out thru the exhaust and then drove it a little.
Yesterday while driving i noticed there is a difference (more responsive and a little more oomph). BUt what concerns me is the HIGH IDLE. My idle has always been 800 and now its 1250. So i turned the white idle knob on the intake and got it down to 1000 but its all the way down.
Why is my idle so high ??? IS there something else i need to do to get the idle back to range and is this a normal procedure ?
I disconnected the battery last night to reset the ECU (stock SR). Tried driving it today to check but its still high 1000 rpm and the white plastic knob is turned down all the way to bring down the idle

check the throttle cable on the intake manifold and make sure its not overtight

has more oump because it is most likely runing to lean and u have an air leak. run the car and spray carb cleaner around the area u messed with u will find the leak.
and or because of the crap u claned out your idle adjustment is out of wack

How do you find airleak with carb cleaner ?
Idle adjustment = is that the white plastic screw.? If it is i turned it all the way down to try and compensate for the idle.

i don't know if you have a/c and had that turn on at that moment. because when i turn on the a/c on my ka it will jump all the way 1k rpm at idle

follow the FSM procedures to re-set your idle. You have to do it with your TPS unplugged. Check all your hose clamps. Also, like azn poopy said, check your throttle cable. If it is too tight, it will hold your throttle plate slightly open even when your foot is off the gas, this will cause a high idle.

Im having the same issues with my ka24de, I took the intake manifold off, cleaned in and out with engine degrease, sprayed the manifold black with high temp paint, changed the gaskets on the IM and TB, put everything back in the way its suppose to, I think? (I have all emissions components) and now it idles steady at 2000rpms.
So my question is, did you find a solution?

turn the car on and spray the cleaner by vaccum lines and such and if you hit a leak the car should rev higher.
