I want to solder!!! Im getting bored of soldering xbox's. I wanted to buy a wideband 02 DIY kit, but the one i was looking at didnt data log, so it was pretty useless. Anyone have any ideas on what other car things are DIY?

Wiring kouki tail lights lights, fog lights, rc cars need hella. Or you could do that wire sculpture stuff that uses solder to hold it together. My $0.2

o0o0o0 solder sculptures, sounds cool, maybe i should goto micheals to check out whats there.

About the rc stuff, i got into it, then spent so much money, i sold all my stuff so i dont want to do that anymore. Money pit hehe.

Just trying to pass the time, i think im going to take apart my climate controller and see if i can fix the lights or somehting.

I think its only if u plan on racing which makes it expensive cuz u gotta keep up with new chit.. i just revived my car becuase of the r/c drift craze...

well heres some quick pics of my 350z..

im rockin a Tamiya TT-01 kit with stock esc and motor on ABS pipe. my set up only cost me about 100bucks...mainly because i already had a controller laying around from my previous r/c cars.

do some plumbing, use a torch to solder hahaha

i was into R/C's also, i did a headlight/tailight on an Altezza body, dam that was hard, went through a hundred leds shit (maybe less i'm exaggerating but that's what it felt like).

I have a nitro HPI RC car I was playing with before I got my first 240, I guess that was like 3 years ago. I blew the clutch in the car, took it apart, never put it back together, then moved to full size cars. my limited budget doesn't allow for two projects, lol. Nitro cars are 200mm wide, electric are 190mm. I was thinking, get a 190mm body and put it on my 200mm car. maybe even heat the plastic and pull the fenders alittle if necessary. lol. sounds like fun to me.

freaking tamiya is like 187mm and not 190mm.. so i had to use the pvc tires to make offset... lol.. i dont know how the new tamiyas are tho.

how much does it cost to get an rc car? it looks interesting

BAH STOLEN!

Anyways im pretty sure that HPI makes a 200mm elec chassis, the PRO?

To get into rc depends on what route you want to go, gas or elec? Buget or Ametuer/pro. A budget kit you can get pretty cheap, they have RTR(ready to run) basically prebuilt with everything to run the car out the box. Then there are kits that you have to build and then buy the electronics along with that kit. Also depending on the electronics you buy changes the price too.

As someone who got a nitro kit, I wish I had gone electric. alot less tuning/ things that can go wrong, and if I had gotten an electric, I would probably be driving it right now instead of typing this, lol. But, nothing can beat the sound of one of those little engines going down the street and the looks on peoples faces, lol.

and as a general rule, I thought Nitro Cars take 200mm bodys, and electric 190mm bodies. I haven't kept track though, there might be a 200mm electric.

HyperTek
07-22-2005, 05:37 PM
when 200mm came out, it was mainly hpi that created that size, and everything was 190mm at the time... Then alot of the nitro cars made 200mm as standard. I remember you could change the old hpi rs4 between 190 and 200mm tho, i dont know about now.

my car used to be gas powered (had a conversion kit for it).. but i changed it back to electric.. gas was heavier and i hate adjusting the brake/clutch.

i spent way too much money on this car, and with the advancement of todays cars, a low budget new car should run laps around it.

I soldered all day long! (but I got paid for it :) )
It sucked though cuz it was just connectors and stuff. Cramming the equivalant of a 6 awg into a conector designed for a 12awg is hard. Anyway

What kinda of iron do you guys have?

95Blue240sx
07-22-2005, 09:23 PM
i got one cheap one i use for xbox's from radio shack, the other one is an adjustable weller, but it only works on high now so i dont use it too much.

I also agree, that newer rc cars are advanced that old cars arent worth a thing. I had a serpent impulse, all upgrades and everything. That thing was a fucking track monster, but i didnt know how to drive. I love serpent cars, they have an agressive looking chassis.

I wouldnt mind a nitro truck and a elec road car.

how bout you solder your FACE.

i started soldering my own guitar/speaker/microphone cables a while back, it's not fun but its a hell of a lot cheaper than buying them at Guitar Center. i got 300 feet of Mogami mic cable, and a bunch of connectors, its pretty easy just takes time. the instrument cables are cake, mic cables pretty easy, but the TRS ones are a little tricky depending on what kind of connector you use. holy shit i can't believe i'm posting on Zilvia. i must be really bored or drunk.

or both. ;)

You know i created this thread because i saw how you put together your megasquit(that sounds funny hahaha).

Yeah i really need a new fine tip iron, the radio shack one isnt fine enough and the damn tip always comes loose. I just need a low wattage one with a nice fine tip, no fancy adjustablitly, any recommendations?

I got your list of RCs beat. starte with some tamiya chassis as pictured from others, then got a hpi rs4 mt, then a rs4 mini, then rs4 pro, then nitro pro, kawada sv10, kyosho copm chassis forgot the name, hpi pro2, hpi racer 2, hpi mini pro, and ended with a serpent on road. its been so long i dont remember the chassis names. I got into rcs too young and got out while i could hehe.

:hsdance: Nice Irons will always be controlled. If you are working with something small enough to need a fine tip you should look into ESD support too.

Im debating to try out these projects...
Build a auto sleepy eye headlight controller using this as a 1 touch setup..
http://www.electronics123.com/s.nl/sc.8/category.36/it.A/id.371/.f

My main thing I wanna build is a L.E.D. Shift light w/buzzer indicator.. almost like the RX7s have.
Using this as the relay activator
http://www.electronics123.com/s.nl/sc.8/category.2/it.A/id.361/.f
I was looking at the packaging at a local electronics warehouse and it said it can use any circuit to trigger the relay and the sensitivity is adjustible, so Im thinking to use the tach signal as the circuit. Use a 12v LED and buzzer. Im thinking it could work.. I know just a lil bit from messing around with rc cars etc, so basic soldering skills and whatnot I think i could do it.

If the tach signal spits too high of a amperage/resistance whatever, I can always cut it down by putting capacitors on it right?
